9 Young People Arrested While Protesting Super Jail
Nine young people were arrested today protesting the Alameda County Super Jail
9 youth and youth supporters were arrested today
(Tuesday July 23rd) at the Alameda County Supervisor's
meeting in the 1st sit-in against the planned massive
Super Jail for Kids. The sit-in was a response to the
Supervisor's voting against a study to assess the
appropriate number of beds for the Alameda County
Juvenile Hall. The 9 young people, as of 5:45pm, were
being booked into Santa Rita Jail.

The Board of Supervisors were supposed to be making a
motion at this meeting got commission this study.
Instead, they made a motion to go forward with the
build but with 450 beds instead of 540. This would
still mean the creation of the biggest per capita Juvi
Hall in the country. They think that they can move us
out of their way by reducing the number of beds. We
will not stand for even one more unnecessary bed. We
are demanding the Board of Supervisors conduct a
utilization study based on accurate numbers and
statistics. Today we refused to be silenced and
refused to be moved and now 9 brave young people are
behind bars. Keep these freedom fighters in your
thoughts and prayers.

The best way you can support the 9 young people locked
up for civil disobedience and all those young people
the Board of Supes is trying to lock up with this
Super Jail is to come out to:
