In 1986, CIA chief William Casey had stepped up the war against the Soviet Union by taking three significant, but at that time highly secret, measures.
He had persuaded the US Congress to provide the Mujaheddin with American-made Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to shoot down Soviet planes and provide US advisers to train the guerrillas. Until then, no US-made weapons or personnel had been used directly in the war effort.

Excellet analogy....
CIA has been involved in fucking up the entire world and the hypocricy with which American Media has been playing to the tune of the American Government and hypnotising the Ignorant common Amercian public is laughable.

What happened on Sept 11 is sad and is not to be forgiven, having said that Americans should ask few candid questions to BUSH.

1. Why did the CIA chief not resign.
2. Why did CIA create TALIBAN with American taxpayers money
3. Follow the money trail, who is going to benefit from the US 40 billion
4. Why is CNN not showing OSAMA pre-1990.

I thought it was well known, at the time, that the United States supported the Mujahadden vs the Soviets? Even the mainstream media recorded Reagan voicing support for the "freedom fighters", as he called them, and mentioned that the United States was supporting them?

No one, including America, has ever denied that we trained bin Laden. But, who can claim that training people to oppose a military invasion & takeover of their country is an evil act? Would failing to provide training and supplies to an oppressed people have been the moral thing for America to do? Training a child to protect themselves at school from bullies is not bad, but one must accept the reality that a minority of some children will themselves then become bullies from such training. America's action benefited the Afghan people, and the fact some have turned that training into evil is a fact of life.

"morality" had nothing to do with it. if "morality" did, then the u.s. would not recruit and train the most violent, most fundamentalist, most oppressive regimes and then give them all the arms they need to form their own "Taliban" club. there are organizations fighting for democracy, but many of them find organizations like the world bank and IMF to be undemocratic as the taliban, so the u.s. cant support them. as it stands, the only "friends" the u.s. can get for their fucking profit plans are other just-as-evil organizations that end up building worldwide terrorist networks that kill me and you. but hey! unocol CEOs need 3rd and 4th homes, so its worth it right? and CEOs never get killed during war ...

Abdul Haq (who was killed by the Taliban shirtly after 9/11) was our best hope for a stable Afghaniztan. Haq went to unite the warlords against the Taliban at the request of the Bush administration. Haq who was and is held in esttem by the majority of afghans. Remember both Thatcher and Reagon were admires of this man. Unfourtunatly the ISI (Pakistan Inteeligence) informed the Taliban if Paks location in Afghanistan. The US was unnable or unwilling to help when informed them of his peril. Like so many true heros in world history their story is known little and told less
