Solidarity with Palestinians -Berkeley Demands End Apartheid, Divest (intro.)

On a site where protests against Apartheid South Africa were once held, people
gathered to demand an end to US government and University of California
support of Israeli Apartheid.

In observance of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
close to 100 people gathered on UC Berkeley campus to take action.
The action took the form of an informational picket.

Those passing through Sather Gate, a busy midday route for students, were
invited to read the long list of United Nations Resolutions Against Israel: http://www.stanford.edu/group/MSAN/palestine/resolutions.html
The list was displayed dramatically - on a single sheet of paper over forty feet
long.

People lined up on both sides of Sather Gate holding signs and banners, to
educate passersby on the plight of the Palestinians and to Demand:
End Israeli Apartheid
No Investment in Occupation
UC (University of California) Regents Divest from Israel
Stop US Aid to Israel
End the Occupation
Palestinians are People - Israel is an Apartheid State…Divest.

“We are out here today because we refuse to be accessories to Israel’s war
crimes. The US government gives $10 million American tax dollars to
Israel every day. Israel spends our money on: weapons to kill and maim
indigenous Palestinian civilians…bulldozers to destroy homes and
farmland…materials to build illegal colonies (called “settlements”)
connected by “Jews only” highways (“bypass roads”) in illegally occupied
Palestine (“the territories”).” - Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP)
