Anti-FTAA rally in San Francisco brings out Diamond Dave!

by Dan Mattson (handyman [at] california.com)
On April 21, 2001, in solidarity with anti-FTAA protests in Quebec, the US-Mexicao border and around the world, a colorful and spirited march and rally happened in San Francisco. Towards the end of rally Diamond Dave took my mike and did his thing. about 2min20sec. More follows.

In solidarity with the incredible day(s) of protests on all the borders (San Diego/Tijuana; Vermont, Buffalo, Seattle) and in Montreal and Quebec, about 500 (at its peak) people rallied through the streets chanting "human need, not corporate greed," and "amnesty for all, tear down the borders, wall by wall."

People were excited to talk about politics and to make the links between international and local concerns -- speakers raged against the PG & E bailout, about gentrification -- and about a system that is pushing deregulation, privitization and gentrification.

It was a fabulous, spirited and non-violent rally!
