This is a song, written by Four Winds, for the Ancient Old Growth Redwood tree, Aradia, which is up on Gypsy Mountain.
The tree-sit was going on in 1998, on the day that Gypsy was murdered by Maxxam Corp., and was re-kindled in December of 2001, after Maxxam/PL marked her for death, immediately following the out-of-court settlement from the Gypsy wrongful death civil suit. This is a very spiteful and deliberate act on Maxxam/PL's part, and will contribute greatly to their downfall.
The CD is available for $10, and 80% of the proceeds go directly to the forest defense campaigns ongoing in Humboldt right now, and 20% goes to Four Winds, who wrote all of the songs on the CD.
by Wildcat
Aradia is located more than 1000 feet from the spot David Chain died. The Aradia tree-sit in 1998 was not even in the active harvest plan. That is why it worked the first time, it was not marked for cut.
The more recent plan was laid out with no ill will or negetive intentions. While the timing may not seem coinscidental to you Shunka, I can assure you that field technicians do not consult the coperate lawyers about possilble settlements before laying out plans. Your assumptions of the nefarious designs of your enemy are false and borderline paranoid. No offense was intended to you, or the memory of your fallen friend. Just a neutral business procedure. Just something to think about.
by Shunka (shunka_2002 [at] yahoo.com)
Wildcat seems like a Maxxam PR pawn.
If there was no ill will, then why was there a hand flipping us off spraypainted on one of the trees that people had been tree-sitting in(Tara) back in 1998, spray painted in the same blue paint used to mark the THP? I found that just after the settlement, near trees that had been cut right around the same time that we were doing our depositions for the Gypsy case, back in 2000.
There was a similar hand painted on a rug that had been used for a sweat lodge up on Gypsy Mountain, back in 2000, also.
I know that there is some spiteful stuff going on here, and you all should be ashamed of yourselves for acting in such a cold, callused, and dispicable manner.

The Divided Mistakes of Generica is going down, and people like Charles Hurwitz and the Bushs will soon be disempowered.
You're all falling like dominoes(the real domino effect).
You even dress like dominoes.
Mother Earth's children will survive the cleansing...better get pure, before it's too late for you.
Karma...
by Shunka (shunka_2002 [at] yahoo.com)
In addition, there was a message spray painted below the disrespectful hand, saying, "to Luna." So whoever marked this THP had a lot of anger and spite built up, and it seems like more than just a coincidence that Aradia, which was left out of the Gypsy Memorial, was marked to be cut immediately after the settlement.
I have since contacted the Maxxam/PL, and informed them about the situation, in case they didn't know(yeah right!); I have left my contact number numerous times, and NO ONE calls me back, except Josh Reiss, the Maxxam(Houston) PR guy, who was rude and short with me, in typical corporate fashion.
Even though Maxxam/PL has been thoroughly informed about the significance of Aradia and Gypsy Mountain, there has still been no effort, on their part, to remedy the situation. All they would have to do is to cancel the THP, memorialize "their land" on Gypsy Mountain, including Aradia, and show some respect for life and death. It's so basic, and so crass that Maxxam/PL is still planning to cut up on Gypsy Mountain.
As you can see in Wildcat's e-mail, he/she is insinuating that it's not going to work this time, that Aradia is going to be cut...how heartless!!!!
David Nathan "Gypsy" Chain was one of the people bottomlining the Aradia tree-sit, back in 1998, right before he was murdered. Yes, Aradia was outside of the THP boundaries back in 1998, yet we cannot trust Maxxam/PL to not just cut the Old Growth, break the law, and eat the fine, or would find some loophole and cut her down. Wildcat says that Aradia is 1000+ feet from the site of Gypsy's murder...it's right up the ridge, and the logger who fell the tree on Gypsy, A.E. Ammons, actually went up to Aradia, moments after he fell the tree on Gypsy, and communicated with the tree-sitters, after praying for a moment next to Gypsy's body, and said things like,
"Remember when I talked to you yesterday? I was nice to you, wasn't I? You have to believe me, one of your friends is dead on the ground back there! Remember talking to me yesterday? I was nice to you, wasn't I?"
So Aradia has a lot of historical significance in the Gypsy story, as you can see, and Maxxam/PL knows it.
I believe that Maxxam/PL was pissed off that they had to settle out in the Gypsy case, because they knew that we had all the evidence, and that they were going to lose if they took it to trial, so now they're trying to take it out on us and Gypsy Mountain. They probably figure they'll make up for quite a bit of their losses by logging the rest of Gypsy Mountain. It's dispicable! All this in the context of a "Forest Peace Alliance," which was formed out of the Gypsy settlement, as Maxxam/PL stabs us in the back, and in the heart.
Many of us are trying to heal from seeing our brother Gypsy murdered right in front of our very eyes, and then watching the company and law enforcement lie about it, trying to cover their tracks, blame the victims, and slander our names over it. Maxxam/PL will not allow us to heal, as they keep ripping old wounds open, and creating new ones, in the Mattole, in Freshwater, in Elk River, in the Eel River watershed, in Scotia and Rio Dell, and all over our community, as they lay the land to waste, exploit the workers, and exploit the Earth.
Last year, in the Mattole, some of the loggers were telling tree-sitters that one of their friends had been killed elsewhere in the Mattole...one of those people were up there when Gypsy was killed, on September 17th, 1998. Mental torture, using traumatic events to torture activists!
Maxxam/PL is a heartless, lawless corporation, spiraling out of control, desperate to keep on with business as usual, despite a direct court order to stop.
Who will step in to enforce the order of Hon. Judge Golden? Who will enforce the real Golden rule?
Is it up to the Humboldt Forest Defense to enforce the ruling of the Humboldt Co. courts? Will it take the Nat'l Guard? Homeland Security? It just goes to show that the corporations have become more powerful than the government, and do whatever they want, whenever they want, unless THE PEOPLE stand up to stop them.
Why be so afraid of change? Sustainable forestry, combined with government subsidized restoration work, is a real solution. Maxxam/PL is afraid to stop logging, even for a few weeks, because they know that if their momentum is stopped, then they may never be able to resume the same liquidation logging/scorched Earth policy that they have been practicing since Hurwitz/Maxxam Corp. took over in the mid '80s.
Change is constant, so let go, Maxxam/PL, and do what you know is right, and let's work together to bring about true sustainable forestry, that we can all be comfortable with, so that we can STOP PROTESTING YOU, and we can petition the local, state, and federal government for government-subsidized restoration forestry.
The time for solution is now, so obey the court order, let your fever cool down, and let's start again, and this time let's make a real effort to live and work together.

The second in the series, this is just one example of what Maxxam/PL has done to Gypsy Mountain.
Maxxam must be stopped!
Have some respect!
gypsyslope.gifj90266.gifr59291.gif
This is another example of what Maxxam/PL has done to Gypsy Mountain, which is what they are doing to the entire county.
These lawless corporations must be stopped.
They already have a court order telling them to stop logging, yet they continue to arrogantly log in their usual irresponsible way.
Please contact everyone you think could possibly help, from your friends to your representatives, from the attorney general to the governor. Maxxam/PL is directly disobeying an order from the court, and is now operating in contempt of court, and is just waiting until someone/something stops them, as Hon. Judge Golden has ordered.
Maxxam/PL should do something positive for their karma(they REALLY need it), and agree to memorialize Gypsy Mountain, including Aradia.
It would be easy to connect the area where Gypsy was murdered with Aradia, all the way down the mountain to the memorial plaque just off of Hwy. 36.
Aradia would be a living memorial, and she is a perfect example of what Gypsy was living and fighting for.
It's the right thing to do, and Maxxam/PL should get used to doing what is right for a change. Change...

i would strongly encourage folks to do a double take on purchasing the posers music. four winds is disruptive and rude. his ideals and attitude towards other humans is way out of line. he has been a burning issue of debate for a few years now. his actions have been polarizing and malicious. until he's willing to grow up and be responsible to the entire community at large, i would not suggest supporting him. but that's just my take. debate is healthy and calling people on their shit is even better.

Some one does’t like The Four Winds.
I don’t like much of the new music, so what?
Q. What’s the difference between a steer and a rock band?
A. A steer has the horns up front and the asshole in the back.
How about some more pictures?

The rigteous shall be persecuted....
Four Winds is running on a higher vibration than most, and is coming from a place of sacredness and respect for what is right and good.
He can also rock the house like few others.
And, so, we see the little petty jealousies coming out, as people lash out against us.
Finger-pointing is often a reflection of the self, and I have to wonder which "poser" wrote such lies about our brother.
The activist community really has a problem with back-stabbing dedicated activists, as in the case of Julia "Butterfly" Hill.
I have a hard time believing that all the back-stabbers are federal agents, which leads me to believe that the activists in this country have a long ways to go before we are truly unified.
Instead of lashing out at the real and dedicated activists of our time, try rising up to a higher vibration and higher level of commitment yourself, and learn to appreciate other peoples' talents, instead of being JEALOUS of them, and putting them down to elevate yourself.
The only people that have been divisive, over the past four years, are those who cannot get over themselves, have prejudices against "hippies," which is just a simple-minded way of categorizing people, people on power-trips, and hypocrites.
Four Winds is a blessing to the movement.
Don't be so jealous, it doesn't suit you well...

Shunka,
It seems like you are trying to make a profession out of activism. Lead the charge, make lots of noise, pretend you are trying to make progress (while furthering your career). And now your cranking out the CD's. Have you been reading D.C.'s playbook?
by Shunka (shunka_2002 [at] yahoo.com)
Career? I'd hardly call giving everything I have, living houseless, except for the time I was helping to run an EF!/squat house, and running myself ragged for the forest "furthering my career."
I am a round-the-clock activist, boycotting jobs for the forest, and I am doing everything I can think of to further the revolution...I wouldn't call that a "profession."
I call that a Lifetime Dedication....
If you can write some better music, I'd like to hear it.
In the meantime, help save Life on Earth.

There was this episode of Fragile Rock where Mookie felt that it was wrong to eat the buildings that the doosers made. So she got Convincing John to come to fragle rock and convince all the fragles to stop eating the buildings.
Soon the doosers had built too many buildings. There was no more room for them to build and they had to leave. Mookie realized that she hadn't fully understood the issue, and made a drastic decision that had negative impacts. She got Convincing John to come back and tell the fragles to start eating the buildings again. Then the doosers could continue to coexist with the fragles.
Don't be a Mookie! You haven't fully thought out your ideas and the results could be disasterous.
by Shunka (shunka_2002 [at] yahoo.com)
We have thought out our ideas, actually, and we know that we are walking in Truth.
It is wrong to bomb people...TRUTH
It is wrong to clearcut the land, causing erosion, the loss of wildlife habitat, landslides...TRUTH
It is wrong to lie...TRUTH
It is wrong to support a government that murders...TRUTH
It is wrong to impose sanctions on other countries, causing thousands of deaths per month...TRUTH
It is wrong to cut down Old Growth trees, as they are the anchors for the hillsides, ancient, sacred...TRUTH
We need a world of peace and sharing...TRUTH
We need a world of equality for all...TRUTH
We must turn the tide, because greed, destruction, mistrust, and anger have their fangs into our physical reality right now...TRUTH
We can turn the tide by working together, by rising up together, and by using the truth to cut right through their lies...TRUTH
The wicked will grow weak, the righteous will grow wise...TRUTH
We will break the cycles of violence on this Earth...TRUTH
Pull your head out of TV reality, and REAL-EYES that we have thought this true, and that the REVOLUTION is UNSTOPPABLE!!!!
Better bloom before you wither....

If we step back and look at what really is going on here. (Saving the EARTH!)The fact that we all have interpersonal issues should not let our minds to wander astray from what we are really doing, sickens me I know that when you are on the inside it is hard to keep up with what we are doing as a whole. Who the heck cares really, how we do it, just that WE DO IT!. This person does it his way she does it her way I do it my way, and We all stay focused on how we do it. Judgements arise, which is natural, yet is is best that we serve a lash on our brothers cheek for how he does it. It it healthy toward our conciousness, and the progression of this universe toward living in light? Come on, bad mouthing another brother at what he is doing to get the message across really is not a good way to keep family. He does it the best he can. And does it well. I have seen many people turn to ask him because people respond to music. Not negativity. This summer I attended a protest in which everyone was screaming....activist and loggers familys alike...noone was listening to each other and nothing was getting solved. Then slowly we alll started smiling ,the drums started up, we fed the loggers children Luna bars...: ) and the people started listening to each other. It was the attitudes that changed that got people to cooperate...not the senseless bitching that goes on in activist debates...Who's better than who? Come on kids what is going to be happening in 20 years? We need each other!
Next time we think about how someone is doing something the wrong way, look within ourselves and see that we are all in this together.
I left and I am aching to come back because I realize the unity was in our hearts only since I have this perspective now. The tree tribe is FAMILY. And even through whatever happened while I was there the things that stand out most in my mind are the things we did together as FAMILY. Not the b.s.
I love you Shunks and Winds I respect your constant humility, brothers keep it up and....Viva la revolucion!
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
