Conservative Christian Activist Practices Withdrawl

CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN ACTIVIST PRACITICES WITHDRAWL

Jerry Thacker, a conservative Christian activist, whom President "Dopo" Bush thought would be ideal for the Presidential AIDS Advisory Panel is withdrawing from the panel today. He was to have been sworn in along with other new commission members next week by Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson. The administration's choice of the Pennsylvania marketing consultant had come under severe criticism from gay rights groups and others.

White House spokesflunky Ari Fleischer commented somewhat strangely about the news, "The views that he (Thacker) holds are far, far removed from what the president believes," Fleischer said. "The president has a total opposite view." So hows come we ask did Bush appoint him.

Thacker and his wife both have HIV. She contracted the virus as a result of a blood transfusion she received during a cesarean procedure. Thatcher has characterized AIDS as the "gay plague" and called homosexuality a "deathstyle." Thacker is a Bob Jones University graduate and former faculty member who now heads the Pennsylvania-based Scepter Institute to promote AIDS prevention via the practice of abstinence and fidelity marriage. Thacker commented about HIV at the end of a speech in Greenville, North Carolina a few years back, "The sins of a society affect the entire society." His Web sit, says he is available as a public speaker on eight specific topics. One is called "help for homosexuals." The site describes the lecture as a "message on the nature of homosexuality and how Christ can rescue the homosexual." The web site says the lecture "includes statistics on homosexual behavior, tips for ministry to those practicing this 'death style' and information on the homosexual movement and its political agenda." In September 2001, Thacker returned to his alma mater to give two "Chapel Messages." As once summarized on the university Web site, the speeches focused on the "sin of homosexuality" and his family's struggle with AIDS and its association with gays.

He does ask for all religious people to show compassion for those infected with HIV.

Commenting upon the Presidents appointment of this guy with whom he (Bush) is in total disagreement, David Smith, spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign said at the time, "We find him frightening. It's one more piece of evidence that this administration is focusing on ideology and not science when it comes to AIDS."

Thacker’s action today showed today he does have more sense then the President. But then who doesn’t?
