5:52PM There is a small riot. Police are being brutally violent. And have beaten and arrested 3 people. They are trying to clear the intersection at 8th, Grove & Market. It is a tense situation. A mass of people leaving the main rally have mixed in and are watching the riot. Crowd is around 1000-2000 strong.

5:15PM March at Powell & Market and rows of cops flanking the march... still going strong... still 1000 people.
4:00PM A row of police on horses were defending Macy's and Union Square from the march of people. The march charged the horses at one point. Some tear gas was set off, and there is one un-confirmed arrest. Tourists and shoppers looked on in curiousity.
3:40PM the main activity of the peaceniks was taking pictures of each other all around.
3:30PM Caller reports confrontation at Hyde and Golden Gate. 20 rows of cops, 5 deep. Faced off with anarchist contingent. Trying to break people up into smaller groups.
