LEGAL UPDATE from the 16th

by crankshaft
Rally at 850 Bryant Thursday at 1pm
Arraignments 9am Friday, rm. M19
6 still in jail
So, the latest update:

First, updates on those who were held in jail:
6 are still in jail, still held on felony or multiple felony charges.

I just called to find specific arraignment dates, and they said they can't say, as the computers are down. But, hopefully they'll be up again soon.

The woman who was held overnight on a misdemeanor "biting a cop" should be released by 6pm today on her own recognizance. Her arraignment is set for 9 am Friday morning.

Other arraignment hearings for those still in jail are not yet set. They may also be on Friday.

Friday is MORE than 72 business hours from the time of arrest, so we should push the courts to set early arraignment hearings, especially for those still incarcerated.

Second, those cited out on Sunday night.

People showed up for their court date this morning. The court was not prepared, and people rallied together and have a group court date on Friday morning at 9 am.

Rumor has it that charges will most likely be dropped, but people should go and support them just in case. People should also go down to 850 Bryant, 2nd floor anyway, so they can be on hand to support the people charged with felonies at their friday morning arraignments.

Props to all the folks who showed up early this morning to support, and also to the two National Lawyers Guild lawyers who are still working hard, and doing a great job.

Rally at 850 Bryant on Thursday at 1pm (on the steps) to support political prisoners and pressure the D.A. to drop these trumped up charges.
