ANSWER has called for a mass protest against the occupation of Iraq, on Saturday, Oct 25th. We will be there on our bikes.
Rather than marching with the main body, we will ride our own route, breaking off from the throng of marchers, snaking our way through the streets of San Francisco, returning intermittently to the main protest route to rally and then breaking off again.
Saturday's action is more than just a form of self expression, more than a "quiet statement against oil wars" as the now-famous yellow license plate says. Through our actions we hope to inspire other protest contingents to prompt change in the way they participate in the usual protest marches that are convened in San Francisco, a change that allows them to reach more the residents of the city, and one that allows their political effect to be multiplied.
Like us, we hope other contingents will take the protest outside the constraints of the ANSWER march route and spill out into the rest of the city, making sure to reconverge with the main body of protesters, and in the process learn and practice organic, grassroots organizational skills that allow us to turn one huge protest into many smaller ones and many smaller protests into one large one.
