Taiwan president, VP recovering after being shot Friday
(Taipei, Taiwan-AP) March 19, 2004 - Taiwan's president is out of the hospital. President Chen Shui-bian and his vice president were hurt Friday when shots were fired into their motorcade on the eve of national elections.
Doctors showed pictures of a four-inch wound on Chen's stomach. They say the bullet didn't go in deeply, and no internal organs were damaged. They say Vice President Annette Lu's knee was grazed. There were no bone fractures. Their injuries weren't life-threatening.
About five hours after the shooting, the president left the hospital to return to the capital Taipei. He didn't comment to reporters as he got into a sport utility vehicle and headed to the airport to board the presidential plane.
No arrests have been made. Security officials say they're investigating and looking for whoever might have been behind the attack.
An election official in Taiwan says the national election will go ahead as planned Saturday.
