Israelis kill handicapped Palestinian

by ALJ
A mentally handicapped Palestinian man has died after being shot by Israeli soldiers in the southern Gaza Strip, hospital sources said.
Ibrahim al-Shawas, 36, died on Saturday after being shot in the head near Khan Yunus on Friday, they said. Witnesses said he was approaching a border fence near the town when a shot rang out from the Israeli side.

Aljazeera reported that al-Shawas was on his way to his farm when he was shot and killed.

His death brings the number of people killed since the start of the Palestinian intifada or uprising in September 2000 to 4721, including 3666 Palestinians and 981 Israelis.

Al-Shawas' death comes as Palestinian security forces widened their control in the Gaza Strip on Friday under orders from President Mahmud Abbas to prevent attacks on Israelis in another important move towards reviving peace talks.

Israeli troops have shot and killed a Palestinian man near Khan Younis in southern Gaza, hospital medics say.

Witnesses said 35-year-old Ibrahim Shawas, who reportedly had learning difficulties, was shot as he approached Israel's border fence.

It would be the fourth Palestinian death in a week, although violence in the occupied territories has abated since Mahmoud Abbas' recent election.

Israeli military sources said the army was unaware of the incident.

Palestinian security forces have been deploying throughout the Gaza Strip in the past week and Mr Abbas has persuaded militant groups to observe a de facto truce and end rocket and mortar attacks against Israeli targets.

Reports say Mr Shawas was shot by troops from the Israeli side of the border.

Efforts praised

Palestinian officials say Mr Abbas, elected president of the Palestinian Authority, will hold his first summit with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon within the next two weeks.

It will be the highest-level direct contact since they signed the roadmap peace plan in June 2003, when Mr Abbas was Palestinian prime minister.

Mr Sharon has praised Mr Abbas' efforts to end fighting between the two sides, and the Israeli army has ordered a scaling down of its military activities in the Palestinian territories.

Mr Abbas is currently in Cairo where he has held talks with President Hosni Mubarak.

Their meeting follows reports that Egypt has agreed to deploy police along its border with Gaza, and that Egyptian officials will help to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian groups.

And of course non of these atrocities would have to happen if the Palestinian People were allowed to have their State called for in the Road Map to Peace, in the Whole of the West Bank and Gaza.........

Allowing the Palestinian People to have their small state in the Whole of the West Bank and Gaza can solve this conflict.
There are 1,200,000 or so Arabs living inside Israel Proper.
There are 400,000 or so Jews living inside the West Bank and Gaza.
Trying to remove all the settlement can be an almost undoable task.
So Set the Borders for Israel to it Pre 1967 Border (Green Line) and have the State of Palestine inside the West Bank and Gaza.
If the U.N. can decide the Borders of Israel in 1948,
The U.N. can decide the Borders of Palestine in 2005.
You would end up with Israel with a majority Jewish Population and Palestine with a majority Muslim Population.
This would allow for the Israeli Military to Guard and Control the Israeli pre 1967 borders instead of confiscating Palestinian Land and Demolishing Palestinian Homes in the West Bank and Gaza that only goes to fuel the need for the Palestinian People to fight for their Freedom.
The Jews who do not like living in the new Palestinian State can feel free to move to Israel if they so choose.
The Arabs living inside Israel can feel free to move to the new Palestinian State if they so choose.
Almost every nation on earth has more then one ethnic group or religious group, so why not Israel and Palestine?
It would sure be better then the never-ending conflict we have right now.

And of course non of these atrocities would have to happen if the Palestinian People were reeducated to treat their own compatriots according to accepted norms of civil behavior so that they could eventually have their State in Part of the West Bank and Gaza.........

The U.N. can not decide the Borders of Palestine in 2005.
