Three people were killed and at least 38 others were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up Friday night outside a discotheque on the Tel Aviv promenade.
17 people were rushed to Ichilov hospital in Tel Aviv, but three were dead upon arrival.
Of those who were hospitalized in Tel Aviv, three are currently in serious condition, one is moderately wounded, and all the rest are lightly wounded. Hospital officials say all of those hurt are in their twenties.
Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai arrived at the hospital and said, "those who believe we have reached peace are wrong. We are still in a process and there are a lot of people who are want to harm it, we will have to wait some more for security and peace."
The militant group Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Police and paramedics arrived at the scene and evacuated victims, some in serious condition, to nearby hospitals.
The suicide bomber apparently blew himself up at around 11:15 PM outside the "Stage" club, on the corner of Herbert Samuel and Yonah Hanavi streets in the city.
Police were closing roads Friday night, and have asked the public to refrain from arriving at the area.
Security officials are pursuing two suspects, after witnesses reported seeing two men fleeing the site of the explosion.
According to police, the terrorists may have come from the northern West Bank, and may intend to return to the area.
Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai and Police Commissioner Moshe Karadi have arrived at the scene of the attack.
The area surrounding the site of the explosion was completely devastated in the blast. Journalists at the scene of the attack described broken street signs and shattered glass. One said that the next-door koisk was almost completely destroyed.
An initial investigation shows the security guard at the night club spotted two men approaching the area and followed them. At this point one of the men escaped and the second blew himself up.
Alon Kotler, a paramedic who treated several of the wounded told Haaretz, "we received a call saying there was a blast at the entrance to a club and we came with lots of backup. We found young people lying on top of each other, most of them moderately to seriously wounded."
According to Kotler, the type of wounds indicate that the suicide bomber blew himself up in the midst of the partygoers.
The manager of the club told Channel 2 that the club had opened only moments before the blast, in a queue of some 30 people waiting to enter.
There were four security guards on the door, he said, adding that the club was usually very busy on Friday nights.
He said that he had been inside at the time of the explosion, and had heard a "large boom."
The explosion marks the end to a period of relative calm in Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Two weeks ago, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas declared an end to hostilities between the two sides, after more than four years of violence.

I am very sorry for the victims.
Those people don't want peace.
At the blast scene, a large number of cars were severely damaged by the blast. Shops across the street from the blast were also damaged.
Islamic Jihad and the Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigades had reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack, while Al-Aksa leaders in Nablus and Jennin specifically denied involvement, telling Jerusalem Post reporter Mathew Gutman, "we would never stab Abu-Mazen in the back."

****************************************************************************************************************
When will Sharon finally use various levers at his disposal, while summoning sufficient wherewithal to outmaneuver US and world public opinion pressure, to force Abu-Mazen into exerting 100% effort into fighting Palestinian terror, dismantling all its infrastructure, overhauling the educational system's curricula, stopping the incitement to hatred and violence everywhere throughout PA governed territory and initiating an ongoing effort -- at least at the same magnitude as that of the reversed endeavor -- at reeducating the Palestinian population for peaceful co-existence with Israel and Jews?
Needless to say, I believe Sharon must suspend all diplomatic contacts with Abbas at least until the latter agrees, and begins to wage, an uncompromising war against the terrorists in his midst.
Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said Abbas was meeting with his new interior minister, Gen. Nasser Yousef, and Civil Affairs Minister Mohammed Dahlan, a former security chief in the Gaza Strip.
Abbas also called for a joint Israel-Palestinian investigation into the bombing.
The bombing disrupted an informal cease-fire with Israel. Abbas has been seeking a formal truce commitment from Palestinian militants, but he is under growing pressure from Israel to dismantle militant groups, a step he has so far been reluctant to take.

I think that is a trick.
My heart goes out to the mothers, the fathers, the sisters and brothers, and the grandparents of the young people killed or injured. My heart also goes out to the mother of the suicide bomber, who may publically proclaim her "joy" at her son's "martyrdom" but behind closed doors she grieves like any other mother.
I would like to remind readers that this attack was not against a military target, but planned to kill civilians --- as their intended victims and well within the "Green Line" that the Palestinians don't respect.
So what's the excuse this week? That Israel has plans to build more houses on the Israeli side of the security barrier?

Rice: Palestinians must act against terrorists
By JPOST.COM STAFF
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice demanded that the Palestinian Authority must capture those responsible for Friday night's suicide attack and bring them to justice in order to send a clear message that terrorist acts will not be tolerated, Israel Radio reported.
Rice said that these types of terrorist attacks are a waste of innocent life and are not conducive for the Palestinians in realizing their goal of an independent state.
Rice acknowledged Palestinian condemnation of the attack, but emphasized the need for immediate and concrete action, reiterating the US government expectation that only action, and not words will suffice.
Palestinian Authority sources have vowed to hunt those responsible and punish them severely.
A press release from Mahmmoud Abbas' office said that the attack was aimed at destroying the peace process.

Palestinians: Hizbullah orchestrated attack
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
RAMALLAH, West Bank
The Lebanese guerrilla group Hizbullah hired a Palestinian from the northern West Bank to carry out Friday night's suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, a senior commander of a Palestinian militant group said.
The militant, a leader of the Al Aksa Martyrs' Brigades, said Hizbullah sponsored the attack. The Al Aksa group is loosely tied to Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party. The official spoke on condition of anonymity.
A senior Palestinian security official confirmed that the bomber was recruited by Hizbullah. The official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said the bomber, a Palestinian from the northern West Bank town of Tulkarm, was a member of the Brigades.
Al Aksa has largely honored Abbas' efforts to maintain a recent cease-fire with Israel. But elements of the militant group, which is comprised of many autonomous cells, are widely believed by Israeli and Palestinian officials of receiving orders and funding from Hizbullah.
After Friday night's attack, which killed at least four people outside a Tel Aviv nightclub, Palestinian security officials said they believed Hizbullah had orchestrated the bombing.
In Beirut, however, a Hizbullah spokesman denied involvement.

As for the suicide bomber's mother, I wouldn't be so sure she's grief stricken in private. Some Palestinian mothers have declared they raised their offspring to martyr themselves in that fashion and rejoice upon their sons'/daughters' death.
"Moscow strongly condemns the crime committed by terrorists and calls on the Palestinian leadership to take every possible measure to curb terrorist actions," Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said in a statement. "It is now of crucial importance not to allow the opponents of the peaceful settlement to stamp out the beginnings of hope for the better future for the Palestinians and Israelis."
Yakovenko stressed that negotiations must continue on the "road map" peace plan intended to settle the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Russia - along with the European Union, United States and the United Nations - is part of the so-called Quartet group that has sponsored the plan.

Friday attack death toll rises to 5
By JPOST.COM STAFF
Victims of TA suicide bombing: [Top] Yitzhak Buzaglo, 40, Yael Auerbach, 28, [bottom] Aryeh Nagar, 37, Ronen Reuvenov, 28
As the death toll from Friday's deadly terror attack in Tel Aviv rose to five on Monday morning, security officials noted that Israel was committed to the cease-fire declared with the Palestinians in Sharm e-Sheikh, and would not go after Islamic Jihad headquarters in Syria, to whom the attack had been traced.
Odelia Hubara, 26, from Jerusalem, who had been hospitalized in critical condition in Tel Aviv's Ichilov Hospital, succumbed to her wounds Monday morning.
A suicide bomber struck late Friday night at a nightclub in the bustling city, just as youths were going out for the night. Rescue services evacuated some 50 people, many of them teenagers, to local hospitals.
Twenty two of the wounded have yet to be released from the hospital, one of whom is still in critical condition, Israel Radio reported.
Yitzhak Buzaglo, Yael Auerbach, Arik Nagar and Ronen Reuvonov, the first four victims of the attack, were laid to rest Sunday. Three of the victims were comrades in a reserve unit, and the fourth was the young bride-to-be of another of the unit's reservists. The group had gone out, along with many of their friends, to celebrate a birthday Friday night. Hundreds of friends paid their respects, going from one funeral to another on Sunday.
The attack came less than three weeks after Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas brokered a fragile cease-fire at Sharm e-Sheikh.
Meanwhile, security sources state that Israel will not go after the Islamic Jihad headquarters in Syria, but rather will concentrate on arresting operatives in the territories.
The sources clarified that Israel stands on the cease-fire commitments it made at the Sharm e-Sheikh summit, Army Radio reported.
However, the security official stressed that Israel reserves the right to eliminate anyone it considers a "ticking bomb."
In addition, security officials pointed out that the Palestinian Authority, under the guidance of Abbas, has taken a clear stance against terrorism, and the terror attack Friday flared furied reactions among the PA leaders.

Islamic Jihad car bomb discovered
By MARGOT DUDKEVITCH
A car loaded with hundreds of kilograms of explosives that had been prepared for attack by the same Islamic Jihad cell responsible for Friday night's suicide bombing was discovered by security forces between Arabeh and Mevoh Dotan south of Jenin Monday afternoon.
A company commander spotted the car with wires protruding from it and alerted sappers to the site. Security officials said that the same cell who launched Friday's attack in Tel Aviv were planning to infiltrate the car into Israel.

Two civilian security guards were wounded Monday night in a shooting attack while patrolling in a security vehicle in the community of Kfar Oranim-Menorah, northeast of Modi'in. One sustained moderate injuries, the other was lightly wounded. They were taken to Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.
Close to 9:15 P.M., shots were fired from an ambush on the security vehicle as it traveled a patrol route on the eastern flank of the community, which is over the Green Line but alongside it. The patrol route is fairly close to the Palestinian villages of Kharbata and Beit Ghur al-Tahta to the east.
According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting occurred close to the Palestinian village Safa, about five kilometers east of the Green Line.

TODAY WE see an almost exact repeat of this history. On Friday night, immediately after the suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, both Israeli and Palestinian sources were feeding the media the line that Hizbullah or Syria or Iran was responsible for the latest massacre.
There is no doubt that Hizbullah plays a significant role in fomenting, directing and financing Palestinian terrorism. And there is no doubt that Hizbullah's patrons – Iran and Syria – have vastly increased their involvement in Palestinian terrorism in recent years.
But, it is also true that all the Palestinian terror groups and the Palestinian Authority – which itself has received weapons from Syria, Hizbullah and Iran – have welcomed this involvement. In the last few years Fatah cells have exceeded both Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the amount of direct payments and direction they have received from Hizbullah.
And the truth is that since the Palestinians began their terror war in September 2000, the various terror organizations have been working together in the open.

Rice: Evidence shows TA bombing planned in Syria
By Haaretz Service and Reuters
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice cited what she called "firm evidence" on Tuesday that the Islamic Jihad militant group helped plan last week's Tel Aviv suicide bombing from Syria.
"There is firm evidence that Palestinian Islamic Jihad, sitting in Damascus, not only knew about the attacks, but was involved in the planning," Rice told ABC News in an interview, according to an excerpt provided by the U.S. television network.
Friday's bombing outside a Tel Aviv nightclub killed five Israelis, shattering a de facto truce by Palestinian militant groups and casting a shadow over Tuesday's conference in London supporting Palestinian security and government reforms.
Speaking to ABC on the sidelines of the conference, Rice ratcheted up pressure on Syria to cease its alleged support for both Palestinian militant groups and Iraqi insurgents and to withdraw its 14,000 troops from Lebanon.
"There is evidence that Islamic Jihad, headquartered in Syria, was in fact involved with the planning of those attacks in Tel Aviv. And so the Syrians have a lot to answer for," Rice told ABC.
"We don't know the degree of Syrian involvement, but certainly what is happening on the territory of Syria, in and around Damascus, is clearly threatening to the different kind of Middle East we're trying to grow," she added.
Israel has also accused Syria of being behind the attack, but Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday there was no evidence that was the case.
"We have no indication and no information pointing towards the Syrians and we cannot have a judgement based on no evidence," Abbas told BBC radio in London.
Israel claims Syrian-based leaders of the Islamic Jihad ordered the bombing and, since it hosts their leaders, the Syrian government shares responsibility. Syria has denied any involvement in the bombing.
Abbas said he trusted Syria's condemnation of the attack.
"[Syrian] Foreign Minister Farouk Shara has declared that he is in total support of the Palestinian National Authority and that he condemns this operation and it is our duty to believe him in that," he added in comments broadcast in translation.
Blair adds to U.S. pressure on Syria
The world is watching Syria closely after last week's Tel Aviv suicide bombing, and Damascus must meet "certain obligations" at a time of change in the Middle East, British Prime Minister Tony Blair said.
"The concerns over Syria are well known," Blair said in an interview with the Guardian newspaper published on Wednesday, adding to U.S. diplomatic pressure on Damascus.
"I think they have to realize that the international community is looking at Syria very closely at the moment ... For Syria, it is important to realize that the international community expects certain obligations to be undertaken and adhered to."
Blair stopped short of explicitly linking Syria to the suicide bombing.
"There is a genuine ... ripple of change at the moment," Blair said.
"But it is happening throughout the Middle East and it is important that we encourage it because it is out of )the Middle East( that so many of the issues that we grapple with in the international community arise."

Jerusalem police declare red alert
By ETGAR LEFKOVITS
Jerusalem police went on red alert Wednesday afternoon after receiving intelligence warnings of a planned terror attack in the city, police said.
Police were carrying out spot checks on vehicles and increased their presence throughout the city in a last ditch attempt to ward off a potential bomber.
The police also increased their presence and activities at security checkpoints surrounding Jerusalem.
The alert, which began shortly after noon, was still in force four hours later, as the evening rush hour began.
The high state of alert in the city comes just five days after a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up at a Tel Aviv nightclub killing five Israelis.

Al Aksa's new attack methods
By MATTHEW GUTMAN AND ARIEH O'SULLIVAN
The IDF located a bomb factory in a raid on Yamun next to Jenin in the West Bank overnight Tuesday.
A senior West Bank IDF source remarked on Tuesday that the situation is so fragile along the northern rim of the West Bank that a single attack could spark a policy shift. Jenin sits on the southern rim of the Jezerel Valley about 10 kilometers south of the Israeli city of Afula.
The factory was hidden inside a secret room at a metal works shop. The IDF discovered seven pipe bombs, explosives and fertilizers and chemicals for preparing explosives.
Sappers destroyed the bomb factory in a controlled explosion.
Though the cell in question likely belonged to an amalgamation of Hamas, or a least a group of terrorists assigned with the task of rehabilitating the now defunct Hamas branch in the north, there appears to be coordination between several of the terrorist groups.
Zakariya Zubeidi's brother, Jibril whose arrest was revealed by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the IDF on Tuesday, apparently coughed up intelligence information that helped lead the IDF to the bomb cache.
In an interview with The Jerusalem Post on Friday, Zakariya Zubeidi mentioned that, "The wall [Israel's security fence] means nothing to someone who wants to commit suicide. Besides we can build tunnels under it or fire rockets over it. There are always ways to get around it."
But when prodded on Al Aksa's possession of rockets, Zubeidi did not deny that the rejectionist groups in the northern West Bank seek to develop alternatives to suicide attacks.
"Our diplomacy at the Hague was 100 times more valuable than all the rockets fired from Gaza," Zubeidi said.
Al Aksa, both in Jenin and in Nablus, he added, are committed to Abbas's truce.
Also overnight Tuesday, an Islamic Jihad operative was arrested in Atil north of Tulkarm.

British official, Israel discuss terror
By HERB KEINON
Israel, disappointed that Tuesday's London meeting did not include in its concluding document an explicit call for the Palestinian Authority to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure, got a chance Thursday to express this sentiment to a senior British official who arrived to brief the government on the meeting.
According to Israeli officials, Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom stressed to Baroness Elizabeth Symons, the Foreign Office's minister of state for the Middle East, that the diplomatic process will not move forward without a PA willingness to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure.
Israel is increasingly concerned that because of the relative quiet of the last few weeks, the international community – in order to "move the process forward" – will be willing to overlook Palestinian commitments under the road map to confiscate arms, close down mortar factories and arrest terrorists.
One official said the London meeting was held in a "good atmosphere," and that Israel did not pick a fight with the British over the meeting's concluding document.
After the meeting, Symons told reporters that the final conclusions of the London conference "condemned [Friday night's] terrorist outrage [in Tel Aviv], and spoke of the importance of fighting terrorism. As I hope everybody here understands, the British prime minister is absolutely firm in his views about international terrorism. We condemn it out of hand."
According to Israeli officials, Symons – who in addition to Shalom met separately with vice prime ministers Shimon Peres and Ehud Olmert – was keen on coming to Israel after the London meeting to show that the British are fully engaging the Israelis, and also to get a "feel of the Israeli pulse after the meeting."
Shalom also used the meeting to urge Britain to support placing Hizbullah on the EU's list of terror organizations, a decision London has not yet taken.
According to a statement issued from Peres' office, Symons said during her meeting with that the meeting was "another useful building block in the context of the road map."
Peres said that the success of the disengagement plan is the best way to move forward on the road map, and stressed that in order to ensure the disengagement plan's success, the Palestinians need to feel an improvement in their economic situation.
He said it is critical for Israel and the PA to coordinate economic issues between them so that after Israel withdraws from Gaza, the PA is not faced with an economic disaster.
Peres also said Thursday that the Palestinian government of Mahmoud Abbas is on the right track, despite last week's Tel Aviv suicide bombing and other attempts by Palestinian militants to torpedo a fragile truce.
Peres met Wednesday night in Tel Aviv with Palestinian Cabinet minister Muhammad Dahlan for talks on economic issues, the first high-level meeting between the sides since the nightclub bombing which killed five Israelis last Friday.
"There is a change, a deep change and some of the things the Palestinians have done are worthy of praise," Peres told Army Radio on Thursday, giving as one example the deployment of Palestinian police in the Gaza Strip to prevent the firing
of locally made Kassam rockets at Israeli targets.
"There is relative calm. Certainly there are people trying to destroy peace efforts, that doesn't surprise me," he said.
