About the recent incarceration of hundreds of legal and illegal immigrants, under very secret conditions.. one lawyer spent a month looking for his client.. about the so-called PATRIOT ACT.. it gives the government the right to label as terrorists, otherwise legal environmental or anti-globalization protestors.. also somebody overstaying their visa, can be jailed *indefinitely*.. other troubling human rights violations.. the profiling of terrorists, the definition of terrorism.. example an animal rights protestor could.. -22:40 Celia Alario: about the recent nomination of John Walters to head the Office of National Drug Control Policy, i.e. the *Drug Czar*.. now w Vincent of the Justice Policy Institute.. Vincent: Even the conservative magazine National Review has editorialized against the nomination of John Walters as drug czar. Walters holds views on drug policy that verge on the fanatical. Walters has dismissed the problem of racial bias in drug enforcement as an "urban myth," despite overwhelming evidence that such bias is rampant; for example, African Americans make up only 13% of the nation's drug users, yet account for more than 70% of incarcerations for drug possession. now w Hilary Shelton: We need somebody to really address the drug problem in our country, not continue a failing policy.. Vincent: 2/3 of the federal outlay goes for policing and incarceration; only 1/3 for education and treatment...
