Gulf War vets twice as likely to suffer from Lou Gehrigs disease.. a five fold increase in luekemia in one Iraqi city.. cancer, birth defects, muscle failure, environmental hazards we don't even know about yet.. already incorporated into the Iraqi food chain..
US and Britain bombing Iraq twice a week for years.. Dennis: now w the editor of the leading Pan-Arab newspaper Alquds Alarabi.. Editor: Great Britain getting a share of Iraqi oil.. When you look at the structure of Great Britain.. I was really shocked by the attitudes of the American media.. They censor Osama bin Laden on the pretext that there might be coded messages.. joining the propaganda war.. don't project the other point of view.. foreigners not shown who express criticism of U.S. policy.. Dennis: the tape of Osama bin Laden admitting to 9-11, the "smoking gun"? Editor: there have been stories of a tape existing for a month.. Why we can't see these tapes? Why we can't judge for ourselves?.. Seems part of the propaganda war? Things they don't want us to see? I interviewed bin Laden in a cave a few years ago.. asking why US still has bases, troops stationed in Arab states.. very bitter when comes to the American adminstration supporting Israeli occupation, settlements.. Katie: a boy read the back of my shirt.. he cursed me.. the Principal asked me if I had the flyer with me *(describes).. Katie: if other people say they want to kill people, I should be able to say I don't.. Katie suspended for bringing the flyers to school.. for trying to start a 'peace club'.. Katie was told she could not speak, or display clothes or writings with her political belief.. a member of the Green Party helped her find support on the internet.. Katie: 15-20 kids wanted to join the club.. Principal told others that Katie 'wanted Afghanistan to win, and America to burn'.. Katie: Not True, and now he denies saying it.. now Katie has been recieving death threats.. Katie: I think that war only brings more war.. in kindergarden, we all learn to share and work out your problems.. Sissonville High School, Charleston, WV.. I don't agree with the 'anarchy' (her tee-shirt espouses).. how Amy learned that Katie was suspended.. Amy: on the way to get her, I was thinking.. why? if everybody can say, "go USA, yeah, bomb them", why can't someone say "no, stop the war"?.. there was a boy in her class, cuffed her, really made a scene.. used foul language, all he got was in-school detention.. Katie: I was in English class.. a guy.. he says the 'n' word all the time.. spit on my Mom's car.. slammed me against a locker.. Dennis: Are you afraid now to speak your mind? Katie: No, I'm, not afraid.. I'm pretty tough.. (*relates how she stood up to a group of boys today).. going to court the 27th of the month.. the Principal is friendly to her now.. Dennis: Do you consider yourself an anarchist? What does that mean to you? Katie: Yes, well I don't know.. I don't consider myself an anarchist.. I might at some point, I'm interested in it.. that was the purpose of the club (to educate ourselves).. we're not terrorists at all.. I made a statement before the school board.. Amy: I stood up, I was in the very back of the auditorium.. said 'why don't you just listen to her?'.. the parents were yelling.. saying that if Katie could wear her tee-shirt, they could wear their KKK hats, and rebel flags.. I hear people talk about it (the KKK).. Dennis: do you have a message for other students? Katie: stand up for what you believe in, don't let yourself get pushed around.. follow your intuition.. Mr. Jabara: now the U.S government says it wants to interview 5000 legal immigrant men from certain Middle Eastern countries .. calls interviews 'perfectly voluntary'.. Nancy: I'm concerned how wide ranging this investigation is becoming.. the government says these 5000 men are NOT suspected terrorists.. but the process is accelerating xenophobia, racial profiling, and encouraging more hate crimes.. about INS form I-94.. Mr. Jabara: people should not be asked about their political beliefs, religious beliefs.. many of these people come from countries where the government is a source of repression.. fearful of being asked questions.. we need to disseminate information.. you should know that you have the right to refuse to answer government inquisitions, you have the right to hire a lawyer.. the have the right not to have answer questions about religious or political beliefs..
