UC Berkeley: A Safe Harbor For Hate

For me he was among the closest people that I grew up with and among the national heroes - just like my father who died during the war with Fascists, just like Ilya Muromets (Elijah of Murom - legendary Russian knight) and Sergei Tulenin, Kozhedub and Pokryshkin, like my favorite actors and good old songs from the movies «First Glove», «Circus», «Volga-Volga», «Goalkeeper», or like Ivan Savelyev from the «Eternal Calling», like Gypsy Budulai, like Valery Priemykhov - Luzga from the «Cold Summer of 53», like Pushkin and Lermontov, Hugo and Mayakovsky, Pasternak and Chichibabin, Vysotsky and Galich, Shukshin, Andrei D.Sakharov, Andrei Babitsky and Grigory Pasko, Ruslan Aushev and Aslan Maskhadov - like all of those who with their own lives have always been like Father Saveliev when he was talking to Feodor:

- Conscience? What do you eat it with?
- You don't eat it, you live it, son...

I don't know why he did not participate in the last presidential elections. I have always considered it a tragic mistake for both him and the entire Russia. I think that his personal decency allowed him to see the duplicity of the inspirers and the organizers of the new war against Chechen people. I think that the explosions of the apartment-buildings in Moscow caused his doubts which prevented him from taking a solid position of «Hands Off Chechnya!»

I am convinced that with such position of peace, with his position against giving royal guarantees to Yeltsin, General A.I.Lebed, who brought peace to Moscow during its standoff with the coup d'etats government (the State Emergency Committee, G.K.Ch.P.) in 1991, who brought peace to TransDnestria (Pridnestrovye), and then to Chechnya in 1996, won a slashing victory over criminal rogue type Putin V.V., who is only famous for his instigations to «Kill always, kill everywhere!» («in the shitter»), and for his good job as an errand boy kissing the backside of drunk Boris.

How many people would have been still alive! How far ahead would Russia go if it was headed by Lebed!

«But there are no miracles, and there's no need to dream about them...»

There is the government which is proud of Shamanov, Troshin and Budanov, Gantemirov and Bykov, for whom Andrei Babitsky and Grigory Pasko, Ruslan Aushev and Aslan Maskhadov are outcasts. During this kind of government Alexander Lebed's death was inevitable – «Just because he was dangerous!».

Read A.I.Lebed's letter full of bitterness, which was published in the Independent Gazette («Nezavisimaya Gazeta») three days before his death (04-04-2002):

«Latest events around the criminal case of Anatoly Bykov cannot help suggesting me, as Governor, serious fears for the situation in Krasnoyarsk Region... Today in Krasnoyarsk Region a pompous meeting of the «national hero» is being prepared, Bykov's «brothers» have apparently become bolder and more active... Looks like everything is falling back into place...»

Alexander Lebed, who conquered death by his own death, is leaving us his testament «I want swans to swim, and I want the world to become more kind from those white flocks...» (from a Russian song).

The life is smarter than the people and stronger than death. The life will find the way to make a self-exposure of this criminal government happen, as well as the necessity for its removal.
