The Official Tour of Shame List below
of the Alta Bates Summit Board Members.

Oakland Ca-Emotions are at a fever pitch as the
stories leak out from the press about Summit Hospital
pulling the plug on the Pain Clinic in Oakland California. The shameless behaviour of Sutter/Summit Officials have shocked the community to the bone.

Summit Board Members & Administrators are being
publicly questioned in newspaper accounts. Medicare & Medi-Cal Patients have been placed at risk by the abrupt closure of the Summit Pain Clinic, and the community is in an uproar.

Pain Patients claim that 2000 patients have been
dumped by Summit/Sutter Pain Management Center
and Pain Clinic in Oakland. Patients have been
holding protests over the pain clinic closure.

Warren Kirk/CEO of Summit and his staff claim less patients have been left without healthcare, and they faced much criticism during a recent Hearing at Oakland City Hall.

The truth lays somewhere in between the claims of
patients and administrators as to how many patients
are now at risk. The Summit Administrators admitted to
wrong doing on their part during the Hearing.

Hospital Administrators refused to re-open the pain clinic despite patient testimonies of the harm being done to them by the abrupt closure. Sobbing and weeping could be heard in the Hearing room as the patients told their stories of the horrible pain that they live with on a daily basis. They demand the immediate re-opening of the pain clinic.

On Tuesday August 6, 2002 theres to be a Closed Door Hearing taking place to figure out how to re-open the Summit Pain Management Center and Pain Clinic.

Meanwhile, concerned citizens are contacting the
Board Members below for an indepth response by
those that are at the wheel of this fiasco.

Many others are calling, writing, faxing, or e-mailing to demand that the Board Members immediately re-open the Pain Clinic before the patients experience any further pain by what has occured.

Unrelieved pain, according to the American Pain Society Principles of Analgesic Use, is the most common patient complaint. Furthermore, many patients silently and unnecessarily tolerate inadequately relieved pain.

Summit Medical Center's Pain Management Service was introduced on March 18, 1996 and is designed to make pain management accessible to all patients and referring physicians. In short, the program wants to provide a simple "one-stop-shopping" form of pain management. This program enables professionals from more than twenty subspecialties to assess, diagnose, and treat pain from the most common daily aches to the most difficult problems encountered in advanced cancer, and in post-surgical and chronic pain.
