At the Bandshell on Saturday

by vic
Camejo was there and really inspired the crowd.
I went out to spend my Saturday morning handing out fliers for public power at 9th and Irving, but after a few hours I was feeling sick and realized that the illness I've been fighting for the past few days was only getting worse in the SF Blizzard condtions.

I went over to the bandshell around 2pm anyway, since Peter Camejo was speaking there at the Pakistani Independence Day, and it was amazing! Out of nowhere all sorts of Green Party people showed up at the booth they had, put on buttons, picked up voter materials and started wandering the *huge* crowd.

When Peter spoke - didn't have my camera that day - the crowd loved him! After a long series of people, like the police chief, who weren't very inspiring (or for me, weren't speaking English), Peter was amazing - he talked about the targetting of Arabs and Muslims, about the rediculous war in Iraq, about bills Davis has vetoed, about what sort of democracy this is where he isn't allowed to debate Davis, etc. People applauded for a long time.

And someone pushed a petition in front of me. It was a young Pakistani girl and I looked at the petition and it was addressed to major media organizations asking to get Camejo into the debates. It wasn't a Green Party form, and obviously had been done by someone on their PC at home.

But this was what Peter had said was happening last week when I saw him in Berkeley - while his campaign is doing virtually no media on it's own, groups are coming out of the woodwork to get him coverage and to do stories on him, because he represents the people and wants truth, not lies.

It felt good to know that *for once*, I didn't feel like I had to stay and do more even when I was feeling sick - it was already taken care of.
