Moveon.org Iraq Action at Boxer's Office - Wednesday noon, hundreds expected

by notaprotestbut . . .
Lots of middle class dems against war in Iraq will converge at and outside Boxer's office Wednesday at noon. Looks like it might be between 200 - 400 people. Might be a good opportunity for outreach and networking, since they don't ask for it to be a 'protest,' just a show of numbers and anti-war support. Apparently there'll be a mic though . . .
Dear Friends,

1 more day until we make our stand and prove that the engine of democracy still runs! Senator Boxer will learn that her constituents urge her to take a strong stand against the Bush Administration's push for war on Iraq. We will deliver a petition of over 2000 pages, containing over 29,000 signatures of her constituents.

First, we will gather together in solidarity and peace, at noon, outside of her offices at 1700 Montgomery Street in San Francisco (cross street is Chestnut). We will assemble at the lawn area on the Embarcadero side of the building (opposite Pier 31) to meet fellow Californians who feel as we do and demonstrate to the media that we can peacefully assemble to express our concerns about the current path of our government.

Below are logistics details again, for those who may not have received them previously. If you need to contact me tomorrow regarding logistics concerns, use my mobile number.

REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS

We still need help making banners and signs for the Wednesday gathering on Iraq outside Senator Boxer's office.

When: TONIGHT 6:30PM

Where: San Francisco

What to bring: Please call Jeff and let him know if you have stencils of letters, paint, markers, big pieces of cardboard or poster board, a large piece of white fabric or any other items that can be used to make banners/signs.

CARPOOLING

We definitely encourage carpooling to the event as parking spaces near the site are few. I know of one volunteer driver in Sacramento but no others. Please ask your friends and colleagues to support this effort and carpool together!

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

From East Bay: Take BART to SF, exit at the Montgomery Station. Then take the MUNI F line on the south corner of Market & New Montgomery Streets (heading toward the Ferry Building). Get off at the Embarcadero and Chestnut stop and you should see the lawn area behind 1700 Montgomery Street across from Pier 31 at the Embarcadero - that is where we will assemble. The Muni trip should take about 25 minutes so be sure to plan enough time.

From South Bay: Take CalTrain to SF, exit at 4th and King Street. Then take the MUNI #10 bus on the south corner of 4th and Townsend Streets. Get off at Sansome & Lombard, walk 1 block north to the Embarcadero turn left and you should see the lawn area behind 1700 Montgomery Street, across from Pier 31, where we will assemble. The Muni trip should take about 35 minutes so be sure to plan enough time.

You can look at http://www.sfmuni.com and select the trip planner to see these and other possible routes.

OTHER UPCOMING EVENTS

UnitedForPeace.org and Global Exchange have been working with MoveOn at the national level, and have a list of other peace events that will be happening in the Bay Area around 9/11 and they plan on using many of these venues to make a call for no war with Iraq.

The list of events is available at http://www.UnitedForPeace.org.
Two particularly appropriate events we wish to call your attention to are:
Sept 10 Women Against War at the Herbst Theater
Sept 11 commemorations at Justin Herman Plaza.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow at noon!
