The SHORTWAVE REPORT 1/24/03 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Germany, Netherlands, Spain, China, Russia, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (January 24) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PST) and on Monday at 9amPST.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, China Radio International, the Voice Of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Germany- Germany’s Foreign Minister Fischer addressed the UN Security Council on Monday, stressing Germany’s rejection of military action against Iraq. Britain is preparing to ship out 25% of its army to attack Iraq. On Wednesday, France and Germany issued a joint statement rejecting an attack, while US Defense Sec Rumsfeld dismissed Germany and France’s view as “old-fashioned.”
From Netherlands- France and Germany celebrated the 40th anniversary of good relations by announcing opposition to an attack on Iraq, and pointing out that war is evidence of failure.
From Spain- Interfax News Agency has quoted a Russian source saying that US operations against Iraq will be launched once its complete force is in place.
From China- A Chinese official says that the N Korean nuclear issue should be solved by direct dialogue between N Korea and the US.
From Russia- Russia is denying a report in The New York Times that Russians installed US spy equipment in N Korea. A commentary on the trial of US pilots in Afghanistan who accidentally killed 4 Canadian soldiers, while under the influence of amphetamines. Israeli troops continue to bulldoze shops and homes on Palestinian territory. Palestinians are accusing Israel of derailing elections that were scheduled for last Monday.
From Cuba- Israeli Prime Minister Sharon publically dismissed Europe’s view of the Middle East as biased, scorning the attempts at making peace. Farm leaders in Mexico are resuming protests against the lifting of tariffs under NAFTA guidelines.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!

--In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.
It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being.
We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.
