The SHORTWAVE REPORT 1/31/03 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Germany, Russia, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (January 31) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PST) and on Monday at 9amPST.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, the Voice Of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- In Cambodia, protests over Thai claims to ownership of Angkor Wat have turned violent. Polls in Holland show overwhelming opposition to a war in Iraq. Human Shield Action Iraq, led by a former US Marine, is sending Americans and Europeans to Baghdad in an attempt to prevent bombing.
From Germany- In Britain, the peace movement is growing daily, as 72% of the population is opposed to a war. Tony Blair is trying to convince the British Parliament and European leaders that war is doubleplusgood. Then a European Press review covering the Israeli election and Bush’s State of the Union address.
From Russia- A commentary covering Pentagon plans to use tactical nuclear weapons in Iraq, psychological warfare, and the continued use of amphetamines by the US Air Force. N Korea continues to offer the US a non-aggression pact and direct talks.
From Cuba- At the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil, the Free Trade Area of the Americas was described as a US annexation of Latin America. The forum concluded with large anti-war demonstrations, and plans were made for upcoming international mobilizations.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
