FRESHWATER TREE-SIT RALLY SUNDAY MARCH 23 AT NOON
Freshwater, CA
Forest activists will hold a rally at noon this Sunday at the site of Remedy's nearly year-long tree-sit in Freshwater watershed, east of Eureka. The rally had been planned to celebrate with her in the tree, but she will be at the rally, joined by her mother and sister, out from Michigan. It is expected there will still be many tree-sitters up in trees at the time of the rally. PLEASE COME IF YOU CAN. THIS WILL BE A GOOD TIME TO STRATEGIZE!
Directions to the rally and the tree-sits: From the south, take the Myrtle Ave. exit off Hwy 101 at north end of Eureka. Go several miles to 3 Corners Market, at the intersection of Freshwater road and Myrtle Ave.. There is a parking lot across from the market, and a shuttle will bring people from there to the rally and tree-sit site, which is 1.8 miles further up Greenwood Heights Rd.
If you come up Sat., there is a benefit at Beginnings in Briceland/Redway with Sherry Glaser, singer Jules Graves, Sisters of the Revolution, Ethan Miller from Maine AND Remedy! Call 707-923-4949 for info.
Additional Information:
It has become even more important to come and support the tree-sits and forest defense, as Pacific Lumber contract workers have assaulted people, and the tree-sit extractions are extremely dangerous and must be challenged.
Except for one tree that PL cut down moments after the sitter was taken down, ALL THE OTHER TREE SITS HAVE RECEIVED REPLACEMENT SITTERS after the original tree-sitters were taken down. This includes Jerry, the tree Remedy lived in for 362 days. Another sitter occupied Jerry soon after Remedy was removed; that sitter was taken down by PL climbers, and PL climber Eric then gave Jerry a severe crew cut, cutting off all the upper branches to prevent more sitters from ascending. However, intrepid activist Phil is now occupying the tree, with little shelter, in the wind and the rain. The rally will be very near this tree, and most of the tree-sits are visible (and shoutable) from the road.
However, the CHANGE is that the action camp in Myers Flat became impossible to maintain once all hell broke loose in Freshwater when the extractions began. You can still camp as an individual in Williams Grove, or elsewhere. You can get information about places to stay at the benefit Sat. night in Briceland and at the rally Sunday.
