Anti-Women Congress Restricts Abortion

by Socialist
The weakness of labor has reached a point of allowing such reactionary legislation as restricting our right to abortion to pass in the House. We must mobilize to restore our full right to abortion on demand with no restrictions now.

The news story is at:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030605/ap_on_go_co/congress_abortion_17

The bill that passed the House criminalizes medical doctors who provide 3rd trimester abortions and calls for a 2-year prison sentence for such doctors.

If it passes the Senate, Nazi Bush will sign it and the pro-abortion groups will challenge it in court. Planned Parenthood's website indicates that the pro-abortion have strong legal grounds. See http://www.saveroe.com

Their analysis is at:
http://www.plannedparenthood.org/library/abortion/carhart6-02.html

No matter what the law or the court, our right to abortion can only be defended by a mass movement. It was the mass movement of the 1960s-1970s that made possible Roe v.Wade of 1973, guaranteeing our right to abortion. The author of the majority opinion, Justice Blackman, was a Nixon appointee. One of the dissenters, Justice White, was a Kennedy appointee. It is not Democrat or Republican; it is a strong grassroots movement that guarantees our right to abortion.

It is long overdue that at all our demonstrations for peace and other broad-based demonstrations, we have speakers support our right to abortion. This is just as important as speakers defending Mumia Abu-Jamal, opposing the death penalty and all the other worthy causs.

Women are the majority, 53%, and when the ruling class attacks women, it attacks all of us. Demand our right to abortion on demand with no restrictions at every rally.

I have heard as much offered by Harvard's resident "Ethicist" Peter Singer. Of course he says only 30 days post-birth should be allowed for the "mother" to change her mind. What an over-educated monster.

My own daughter was born at 32 -1/2 weeks. The very idea that she was a "choice" is disgusting and immoral in every way.

I suggest anyone who supports late term abortion to spend a few hours in the premmie ward of your local hospital to see the beautiful human children who could have legally been destroyed in the name of a "woman's right to choose."

why do you need one?
back in the sixties the pill had not hit the market yet and abortion was the only option but to day it is different
you have
*the pill (OLD STYLE)
*the pill (NEW STYLE)
the pill (MORNING AFTER)
*the iud
*the patch
and for the extremely absent minded norplat ( implant 4 years of protection)
NOT TO MENTION ALL THE OTHER STUFF SO WITH ALL THIS, WHY DO THE PROFESSIONAL PROTESTERS TRY TO MAKE ABORTION SOUND LIKE THE ONLY CHOICE??

It should be all cases compulsory and, in most cases, retroactive.

ANATOMICAL AND FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PAIN PERCEPTION

Cutaneous sensory receptors appear in the perioral area of the human fetus in the 7th week of gestation; they spread to the rest of the face, the palms of the hands, and the soles of the feet by the 11th week, to the trunk and proximal parts of the arms and legs by the 15th week, and to all cutaneous and mucous surfaces by the 20th week.

Development of the fetal neocortex begins at 8 weeks gestation, and by 20 weeks each cortex has a full complement of 109 neurons.

Surely you are not suggesting that the ability to feel pain is a measure of whether or not one is human, are you? Plants feel pain. It can be measured with polygraph.

I am of the opinion that life)human life) begins at conception. Just call me old fashioned. Why is Bush considered a NAZI Didn't the Nazi's lose the war? I always love to hear the most hated of all terms ever devised by the mind of humanity bandied about. Just think, it fits everything you can think of. Bloody Nazi! How dare you take our right to abort a distinct individual away from us. Blast you, Nazi scum. A womans' place is in the clinic, not in society. Nazi filth!
Don't trouble your hearts over this, abortion is here to stay. A blessed peace!
by cal preamble protects choice
A woman's right to self-determination and governance over her own body were written into the California preamble. Check it out. We are not breeders.

family planning is a family value
by mitts and minds off my body
When men stop raping women...when incest is no more....When science delivers a birth-control method that works 100% and won't give us cancer nor toxic-shock nor a false sense of security...When men and women are educated and given choices in their lives...When women earn a living wage...when comprehensive healthcare is a given right...when family planning is a celebrated right for all women, not for just those who can afford it. When men withdraw, when women decide...our bodies and our wombs wouldn't be a public policy issue.

Barefoot and pregnant no more.

Remember Dr. Slepian and his colleagues, the clinic bombings, the clinic staff terrorized, the assaulting of patients...add the women who have died from back alley abortions and failed terminations. "Think of the children" left in dumpsters by confused middle class white teens. The twenty-something suburban middle-class white mothers who commit matricide. Children filling orphanages. These are the victims of a pro-choice agenda.

The army of god web-site encourages terminally-ill supporters to become suicide bombers. They list a doctors hit-list.

Do the ends justify the means? Is this not a free country. Is not Roe v. Wade law? Obey the law and keep your mitts and minds off my belongings. No covetting my womb!
by Scottie
they pull it out (then it is technically born) and then suck the brains out? please tell me it aint so..
they should leave it. If it isn't a person then it doesnt "suffer" and so there is no need to "kill" it... particularly from somthing as disgusting as sucking its brains out.
If it IS a person at least it is not quite as bad to detach it from yourself as to detach it and then kill it.
Also what about using some baby bits for medical purposes?

Let women decide, let men withdraw

Men Withdraw!

Look here, never mind all this BS shrouding the real issue of Women's self-determination and right to choose---3/5; 4/5th...takes me back to the 50s.

Infringing male-domination opinions upon a civil rights issue: a woman's right to govern her own body, while equating these Pro-Life arguments as a human rights is contradictory. Stop hiding behind pseudo-science paid for and bought by Pro-Life/conservative right wing Front groups.

The civil right movement also battled bean counters too. Hmmm, bean counters, they defined the brain size for Eugenic practitioners who sterilized young black women throughout the south, and falsified their data to support conclusions that blacks were inferior and therefore inable to make educated decisions around the vote...9/10ths black adn Jim Crow Laws...

Limiting abortion rights is just another campaign by pushy, religious zealots who employ murderers and terrorists to further their agenda which is to rip independence and self-determination from the hands and hearts of women and their partners who are free citizens, who have the right to decide on their own idea of family planning.

Let women decide! Women are 51.9% of the population. We carry your sorry asses through the birthing, through your BS teen years, and then some. Now, you want to tell us, your mothers, what we can and cannot do?
by Newton
I happen to be pro-choice (I believe it is most likely the better choice than bringing a child into the world that you don't won't and/or can't afford)

Having said that, I don't believe that Roe v Wade is based on very sound Constitutional law. After all, that is what this debate is all about -- states' rights to determine whether abortion is legal, or federal laws to trump states' rights.

I challenge somebody out there to make a good Constitutional argument for a federal law to mandate that abortion be legal in all 50 states.

Good luck. And I look forward to your responses.

There are many variations of thought on this.

And you can be pro-life, agnostic, pro-enviroment, anti-capital punishment and anti-war....because they all logically go together for me.

And people who were once militant about being pro-choice, can change their minds, especially given the advances in medical technology that allows babies at 20 weeks gestation and younger to survive.

But many, many thoughtful posts about this abortion issue have been removed by the editors - over 90% of them from this thread. It leads one to believe that the editors are so unsure of their views that they cannot allow debate.

Sad, huh?
by woman of color on wedge issue
Dear Former NOW member,

Your declaration of former membership in NOW does nothing for the discussion, other than to say you belonged to a group of women, who are predominatly white, upper-middle-class, college educated with most likely free access to healthcare for yourself and your family members.

Little has NOW done to help indigent women and women of color attain the same freedoms. I'm glad you're comfortable enough now <<those who were once militant about being pro-choice>> to sit back and soften your demands for self-determination for us other women who never belonged to NOW.

As for the rest of us, who have not benefitted from the woman's movement--since we remain entrenched in poverty, without equity, without fair pay, without a leg up now that Affirmative Action is under fire, and because of this we must continue to strugggle to maintain the very few rights and access to family planning that NOW women enjoy through their Affirmative Action jobs HMO/PPO.

Women of color are tired of the "NOW" women (former/present/future) patronizing tone regarding such important issues of personal freedom, self-determination, and enfranchisement. Glad things are so settled for you.
