Narcs Hassle Senior in SF

by Tortuga Bi LIBERTY
Undercover San Francisco narcotics officers hassle senior who merely sits on sidewalk reading newspaper -- twice.

S.F. COPS HASSLE CHRON READER -- TWICE

Open letter to the Honorable Willie Brown, Mayor of San Francisco:

While sitting on public sidewalks reading the San Francisco CHRONICLE, I've been hassled by plain-clothes narcotics officers, TWICE in recent months.
They approach me in pairs, and ask where can they buy pills, "around here".
I can't believe they really think I'm a dealer. Living in the Tenderloin, I have daily opportunities to study the behavior of genuine dealers, who operate brazenly, even counting their cash openly. If I were dealing, I would be alertly watching my surroundings, noticing potential opportunities and hazards, NOT reading a newspaper, oblivious to passers-by. If I were dealing, I wouldn't be dumb enough to wear a transit identification card around my neck, revealing my full name to strangers.
And at 61, I'm too old to fit the dealer profile. I do look like a potential user, hence unfamiliar dealers sometimes ask, sotto voce, whether I'm "looking". After a dealer gets used to seeing me, he stops asking. Why waste time on a senior who merely turns away, often with a grim expression of loathing?
When a pair of narcotics officers marched up to me on July 2, near the main library, one asked the stereotypical question. In reply, I addressed him as "Officer". His partner nudged him, and they marched away. But then I foolishly lost my temper, and yelled "Pig! Dirty pig!" At a distance, the talking cop turned around, pointed his arm and index finger at me, and yelled "You're going to jail!"
Now I'm terrified. His remark indicates an intent to plant some illegal substance on me, then to claim I was dealing, or at least possessing. Even if the false charge failed to produce a conviction, I'd still spend time in the city jail, probably being denied my anti-depressive medication (Trazodone), which could trigger a mental breakdown.
So please tell your officers that I apologize for outing them. And please beg them, on my behalf, to refrain from framing me.

Yeah, watch out. A schizophrenic man who has lived 4 doors down from my building for as long as I've been there has delusions that one of my neighbors does all sorts of stuff - is a child molester, a heroin dealer, is gay, dresses badly, and he sent over 50 threatening letters, and made phone calls to him. The schizophrenic guy started calling the police and saying that my neighbor was a dealer, and the Berkeley antidrug task force did a big raid with 8 officers on his apartment and sifted through all his belongings. They were unable to detect that their informant was totally crazy despite his military fatigue pants and affected mannerisms.

If there was an undercover operation in the area and you did yell what you did than yes, you could go to jail for that (no need to plant dugs).
If you recognized them as Officers than there probably was not an operation going on, they were just palin clothers Officers not undercover (you would never "pick" an undercover).
I'm kinda curious what the profile of a drug dealer is, beacuse I have seen them come in all ages, races and types.
I believe you watch too many movies and are a bit paranoiod and frankley a bit naive for your age.
How many times have you called the police on all the drug dealers that are ruining your community?
Tenderloin Station has an anonymous tip line have you ever used that?
Next time think before you speak.
by you'd think not, wouldn't you?
Maybe *he* couldn't. But it can be done.

True, we all get lucky once in a while.
Point being, all those cops who walk around in plan clothes are just that...plain clothes. Big difference between those guys and an "undercover" Officer. Its so funny how the people on this site love to point out "undercover " Officers like a big secret has been let out. Not hard when they are arresting people and standing behind the police lines. Do you really think they mind have their picture taken and posted? Of course not. I have yet to see a picture of one of the hundreds of truly "undercover" cops that were at all the demos.
