SAN FRANCISCO SUPERVISOR AND MAYORAL CANDIDATE
GAVIN NEWSOM SUBPOENAED TO APPEAR IN COURT!

September 30, 2003, San Francisco- Topic: Supervisors
Gavin Newsom and Bevan Dufty were presented with
subpoenas to appear in court starting on October 10th
(incidentally also Supe Newsom’s Birthday!). The two
supervisors were served this afternoon in City Hall as
they were exiting a Transportation Services Committee
Meeting. Newsom and Dufty were present last February 6
when police officers brutalized and arrested peaceful
queer protesters outside the Lesbian Gay Bisexual
Transgender Community Center. On that evening, Gay
Shame protestors in festive attire were handing out
flyers, and were ironically denied entrance to their
own Center by the SFPD. According the police reports,
officers told Newsom that he and Kimberly should enter
the building in the back, away from the protesters.
Newsom insisted they enter by the front door, which
necessitated a police escort. A squad of SFPD officers
escorted Gavin and Kimberly Newsom, straight
conservatives, into the building and then immediately
began attacking queer protestors. Violent SFPD officers
threw one person face-first into oncoming traffic, put
another into a choke-hold until he passed out, and
bludgeoned one woman so hard in the face that blood
poured out of her mouth and one of her teeth was
shattered. The spectacle of queer protesters being
bashed outside of the San Francisco LGBT Center, as
Center staff, the Newsoms, Supervisor Bevan Dufty and
gay politicos looked on (and did not intervene), was
not lost on local and national media.

Four protestors were arrested in the February police
riot outside the LGBT Center, and faced ludicrous
felony charges (after serving jail time of up to 60
hours). Most of the original charges have been dropped
under intense public pressure, but four protestors
still face misdemeanor counts of Resisting Arrest. How,
one might ask, can peaceful demonstrators be charged
with Resisting Arrest if they are not charged with any
other crime? The answer is that clearly these charges
are politically motivated as Gavin Newsom attempts to
sweep to power with strong-arm tactics.

GAY SHAME is a Virus in the System. We are committed
to a queer extravaganza that brings direct action to
astounding levels of theatricality. We will not be
satisfied with a commercialized gay identity that
denies the intrinsic links between queer struggle and
challenging power. We seek nothing less than a new
queer activism that foregrounds race, class, gender,
and sexuality, to counter the self-serving "values" of
gay consumerism and the increasingly hypocritical left.
We are dedicated to fighting the rabid assimilationist
monster with a devastating mobilization of queer
brilliance. GAY SHAME is a celebration of resistance:
all are welcome.

There are huge luxury condos, mostly unoccupied, on Harrison near 20th in the Mission -- and they have huge 'NEWSOM FOR MAYOR' posters in two of their windows!

These creepy people are really fucking arrogant!

Gay Shame is a welcome relief to the condescending attitude of mainstream gay community. Consumerism and capitalism is the ubertheme of SF's Castro district, each corporation eager to do their part to gather gay dollars without any sense..

by thats a good question
Newsom is basically a liberal who hates the homeless. Im sure Newsom supports money for the Opera, money for new museums and hundreds of other "good liberal" causes. Liberals love spending our money on fancy programs for the middle class, but when was the last time you ever say a liberal give a shit about common people or the homeless?

Gonzales and Ammiano actually have substance but Newsom is just some high society liberal who looks down on the common people.

What a bunch of pathetic losers. I am sorry that the Gay Shame crowd can't make it in the real world, but that's no reason to blame everyone else for your failure. Most gay people grow up, get a job, and go on with life. If that is "selling out to assimilation" then consider me sold. As for Newsom, he will be a breath of fresh air in this stale Left-bot city. The poverty pimps have been fawning over the homeless for years, and the result is all to obvious for everyone to see. Newsom will stop the $400 a month booze/drug graveytrain. The "homeless" from Oakland won't be getting money any more. The petty criminal predators will get their heroin somewhere else. The ones that want help will get it, and the drifters will be shown the door to Greyhound. I can't wait.

Why shouldn’t the middle class see some returns on their tax dollars in the form of monies for the Opera, New Museums and other "good liberal" causes? I would dare say that more money goes to good “progressive causes” than these “liberal causes”.

And by the way... last I checked most people considered the middle class as common people.

usher in facism!
by gay shame = back to the closet
this bunch of misfits want to pretend that they have a right to disrupt city events and ruin a celebration for thousands of people .....why , so they can throw a childish tantrum! you are a scourge on this community
by preffered over gay indifference
Gay shame is pointing out problems in the gay community. For this they will be shunned and disrespected, just as the initial Stonewall crew was decades ago..

The people on the fringes are swimming upstream against a current of indifference. If the majority of the gay community have become ubercapitalists, than this needs to be pointed out by members of the community bold enough to take a stand..

Corporate greed and consumerism is causing America to oppress people and environment in the process of resource extraction/production. The side effects are slave labor, pollution and deforestation. Corporations that engage in this practice are trying to befriend the bank accounts of the gay community by being "gay friendly". This trick is only designed to get more money and support from the corporate mouthpieces of the gay community..

Gay shame is pointing out this problem for the people too indifferent to give a fuck..

Shame on gay indifference to corporate exploitation..
