Gay Capitalist Republicans

by give community bad name
The gay capitalist Republicans are turning the gay community into a materialistic frenzy of consumerism. This is giving the gay community a bad name because the gay republicans flaunt their wealth in an obnoxious elitist way, in the face of SF poverty..
Who are the gay capitalist republicans and what is their role with the religious right republicans? These are not on the surface the bible thumpers of the texas christian conservatives, but they are obsessed with material possesions..

Why are gay capitalist republicans allowed to take over the gay community?

Why? Because people like being affluent, something that Marx never figured out. Thats why there will never be a "revolution".

Well excuse me for working hard, going to school part time and getting a BA and an MA. I make good money because I WORK for it. If you don't like success that's your problem, but I have no intention of feeling an ounce of guilt. Perhaps if some of the gay shame self proclaimed "activists" would get off their tired asses and get a job they could advance as well. Sorry, honey, but most of us just don't have the time for your tired, expired rhetoric. The gay community has evolved over 30 years. Perhaps you should, too.

Because by not including the real villains, you end up sounding like ever other Democratic Party faker who used the gay/lesbian/trans and bi people of this city to further their political careers. I don't believe you want this to happen, I believe you want to take a principled stand and fight the power. But by letting one wing of the power structure off the hook, you end up supporting it. Do you really think Susan Leal or Angela Alioto would be any better?

The Gay (and Lesbian) Republicans aren't the ones responsible for the consumerification of the Gay community... it is the leadership of the GAY (and Lesbian, etc.) DEMOCRATS who ended the stomped the life out of the gay liberation movement, the AIDS activism movement, etc. Gay Republicans are just the natural outgrowth of accommodating the capitalist power structure, a process put into motion by Gay Democrats back in the 1970s. Back then, they shoved gay liberation activism into the safe world of San Francisco reformist politics. Welcome to the Democratic Party, the graveyard of every social movement since FDR! You better look closely, most of the slimmy yuppies in San Francisco, Gay or Straight are Democrats.

In much of Gay Shame's agitprop, they also spend alot of time attacking Newsom as any of the other contenders have real solutions for homelessness and poverty in this city. But the Gentryfication of SF took place under watch of any number of Democratic politicians who attempted to appear progressive. The problem is the status quo, capitalist politics. None of the mayoral candidates, stand firmly on a platform or social base that is irreconcilably opposed to the system that creates and needless homelessness, poverty and unemployment to survive.

Gay Democrat leaders are just as culpable for undermining the original radicalism of the gay and lesbian movement.

I urge Gay Shame to continue to its fight to expose Newsom and the Gay Republicans. But in doing so be careful not to give the Democrats a free ride.

After all, Newsom is the pick of the DEMOCRATIC party elite in this city. Newsom is who they want to gut social spending, increase the exploitation of workers. And he is doing it with the help of plenty of Gay and Lesbian Democrats.

So you just worked hard. You didn't benefit from coming from a background where you had parents who supported your getting an education, whether finanically or through helping you study. I guess there really isn't any such thing as privledge. Everyone is equal in this country, and the reason people are poor is just because they're lazy. Thanks for clearing that up.

A soccer game between gay republicans and gay anti-capitalists should solve this schism.

Yes, I had two parents. My mother chose to marry and have chidren, not breed without any means of support and expect welfare to pay for it. Yes, my parents urged me to do well in school. They didn't spend their money on booze and drugs. I went to junior college, SF state, got student loans, worked, etc. My parents didn't give me money, they just raised a rational, responsible person. You can do the same thing now. But we warned, majoring in gay studies or ethnic studies will NOT get you a job.
by What's the big deal?
If being gay is just the flip-side of being heterosexual, why are people surprised that, among that set of people who are gay, there will be Republicans and Democrats?

Limiting themselves politically only undermines the goal of acceptance by society at large. Witness two other groups that, to varying degrees in history, have been discriminated against: African Americans and Irish Americans. One group has tried to further itself by sticking together (largely) under the democratic banner; the other spans the political spectrum. Today, no one views the Irish Americans as a group, and each of them is merely viewed, in accordance with Dr. King's dream, as an individual.
by Paddy O'Furniture
The Irish, by contrast to the blacks who were born here, learned very early to blend in and then take over. We weren't bitching about police brutality. We were the police. We didn't complain about being locked out of city government, we ran the cities.
This, of course, while being referred to as "bugs" or "vermin." Yet Irish culture has penetrated every aspect of America from music and dance to politics and food.
Once the most hated minority in America, the Irish changed all that in two generation.
So what's the black excuse? Does that excuse explain why African immigrants have some much better than born here?

Will you be wanting to step outside and say that, boyo?
