MONDAY, NOV. 3 - PREP SESSION FOR PRESENTERS, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

TUESDAY, NOV. 4 - PREP SESSION FOR STUDENT PRESENTERS AND ACTIVISTS, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. UC Berkeley, Eshleman Hall, Senate Chambers (Bancroft Ave., between Telegraph Ave. and Dana St.), contact Dawn at dawnw [at] uclink.berkeley.edu.

THURSDAY, NOV. 12 - TEACH-INS begin in schools throughout California Teachers are being encouraged to pick at least one day during this period to hold a teach-in at your school. ENI can help you with lesson plans and help you find presenters in your area!

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 19 - DAY OF ACTION Students, parents, teachers and concerned community members across California will demand a reduction in the number of people behind bars, saving the state millions of dollars that should be restored to education!

Description of Prep Sessions

THURSDAY, OCT. 30 - PREP SESSION FOR TEACHERS

The Coalition will hold a preparation session for teachers to discuss the goals of the Teach-In and discuss the immense problems facing our schools due to drastic budget cuts. We will pass out and explain the curriculum being developed by our experienced team of teachers, outline presenters available for the teach-ins, discus ways to participate in the Day of Action, and talk about how to organize teach-ins at your school.

The Coalition will hold a preparation session for people who want to visit classrooms as guest speakers to discuss how California’s politicians are cutting money from education but continue to spend money on locking up more and more people. This prep session will be partially facilitated by students and will focus on preparing presenters to address students in a way that is engaging and productive.

Students, parents, teachers and concerned community members across California will demand a reduction in the number of people behind bars, saving the state millions of dollars that should be restored to education!

ENI encourages you to organize visits to the district offices of state lawmakers in your area on Nov. 19. You can bring letters, photos, essays, drawings and any other form of constructive expression about how the academic achievement of California’s students is suffering while the state continues to spend money on prisons!

If you can't visit a district office, we encourage you to send letters, pictures, or a story book of what your school could do with the money cut from prison budget; or draw pictures of loved ones in prison.

The Last Graduation is an award winning documentary about the the
rise and fall of prison college programs. although its focus is new
york, the film tells a national story and is still (unfortunately)
very current (it was filmed/edited from 1993-97). The Last Graduation
is 50 minutes and usually stimulates a great deal of discussion about
the very issues the teach-ins will address. benay if you are
interested in screening The Last Graduation at any
of the teach-ins, i would be happy to donate a few copies.

in order to research the "War On drugs." From this research, the

war on drugs, and the students speak in classrooms about their
