On Sunday Feb 22, 1:00PM at CSUS, Ed Asner will emcee Multiparty Voter Education event focused on bond/budget ballot issues Props 55/56/57. Keynote theme: Impact of Calif Election on The Empire and on Calif Residents.
At a downtown Sacramento meeting following Saturday's MLKjr March & Rally, Dr Bill Bronston (http://www.towerofyouth.org) presented the tentative program lineup for an event aimed at educating activists, opinion leaders and the electorate about the three Propositions on the March ballot.

The event will be opened and emceed throughout by actor/activist Ed Asner. Tentative committments have been received for appearances by Treasurer Phil Angelides and Rep, Barbara Lee (D-Berkeley). Candidates for the 9th Dist Assembly seat are expected to participate, as are several elected and appointed officials, candidates, and experts on fiscal issues.

Democratic Presidential candidates -- who will be campaigning in the state leading up to the March 2 vote -- will be invited to address the gathering and to comment on the Propositions.

John Borson of the Sac Labor Council will talk on Prop 56 and the two-thirds vote required to pass the budget.

Meeting participants included Green candidate for the Fifth Dist House seat Pat Driscoll and Green leader Ken Adams; Sac Central Labor Council Pres Emeritus Ruth Holbrook; Dr Duane Campbell of CSUS; JoAnn Fuller of Common Cause, along with fellow Sac Peace Action board member Mario Galvan; HipHop filmmaker/labor activist General Dah; and others.

The next planning meeting will take place Saturday, Jan 24, at 10:00AM (to avoid conflict with the Central Valley IMC mtg later that day).

Invitations to this meeting are going out primarily to representatives of existing organizations and to experienced activists.

Until further notice, the location will be Marty's, on Broadway next to Tower Cafe, in the baseball dining room. Those interested in attending should check beforehand: it may be nec. to move to a larger venue to accomodate all who wish to attend.
