Ekta, Friends of South Asia, and 3rd I present:
"MUKTIR GAAN" (SONG OF FREEDOM)
[Bangladesh/USA, 1995; subtitled]
Come join us for a free screening of "Muktir Gaan" (Song of Freedom), an award-winning documentary about the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. It explores the impact of cultural identity on the liberation war, where music and song provided a source of inspiration to the freedom fighters and a spiritual bond for the emerging Bengali nation.
The Progressive Bengali Network is a new group of left, progressive, and radical Bengalis from the Bay Area trying to bridge the borders between the many Bengals -- East and West, geographic and diasporic. We're working to build an alternative space for arts, activism, and community organizing.
