2 important events
2 important events are happening at the state capital of California in Sacramento on june 2nd and june 9th. The first involves health care and the second involves legislation banning the "redskin" mascot in Californias public schools. The info is below.
***Wednesday june 2nd 2004
Join the Action for Indian Health Campaign on the west steps of the State Capital from 12-4 pm. Tell legislators not to cut Medi-cal, Alcohol & Substance Abuse calWORKs and Tribal TANF Programs (basically Arnolds proposed cuts will have a serious impact on NDN health programs here in California).
BBQ,Speakers-open mike, Register to Vote, Live music by Loose Arrow, Mary Youngblood, and Traditional Singers & Dancers.
****The Alliance Against Racial Mascots is planning a DAY OF ACTION on Wednesday, June 9, 2004. Please join us as we visit the offices of many California Senators, and the Governor and urge for the support of AB 858 (Goldberg).
We will be meeting at the office of Assemblymember Jackie Goldberg at the State Capitol at 8:30 AM where we will break into groups for our scheduled appointments.
ALLARM hopes to have an amazing turn out to counter the intense opposition that will be at the Capitol that day from "Redskins" schools such as Gustine High School and Tulare Union High School. Let's show our Senators that WE will not tolerate the use of racially offensive and derogatory "Redskins" mascots!
For more information on the lobby day, please contact Juliana Serrano at (213)250-8787 ext. 211 or by email at jserrano [at] nccj.org.
