We have come from across the hemisphere to confront the G-8 and the policies they pursue, policies that have wrecked our global environment and continue to impoverish the majority of the people of the world.
On Thursday, as we walked the nine miles towards Sea Island, our actions were in direct conflict with the authoritarian anti-protest permit ordinances of Brunswick and Glynn, and also the Secret Service's arbitrary closure of these corridors to political speech and people without cars. We consider this entire county a free speech zone, and freedom of movement a basic human right.
Our message Thursday was directed towards revealing the suffereing of the Palestinian people under the Israeli military occupation, and exposing the role of America in sustaining that occupation. We have seen firsthand the brutal repression of non-violent protest in the occupied territories, and we condemn continued weapon and bulldozer sales to Israel by the G-8 countries. In doing so, we join our voices with Anarchists in Tel Aviv who demand an end to all occupations, and justice for the Palestinian refugees.
While working this week to clean and remodel dilapidated houses for unwed mothers within the Fix Shit Up projects we have met residents who were scared by the overwhelming presence of the soldiers and police. Watching Brunswick exchange elementary schools with criminal processing centers and turn public parks into military encampments was profoundly disappointing. The injuries we have sustained this week while speaking out have done less damage to our bodies than the Governer's casual militarization of civilian law enforcement has done to American democracy.
We have peacefully assembled, marched, spoken our minds, and we are political prisoners in the Glynn County Detention Center. We urge all to join us in our struggle for a society free of the chains of racism and militarism, and to help us build a new world.
