Who Determines What's on Central Valley Center Page? The Criteria?

by Dan Bacher (danielbacher [at] hotmail.com)
What determines what stories are placed on the center page of Central Valley?
I'm wondering why relatively few Sacramento-based articles or action alerts are placed on the center page of the Central Valley webpage. Virtually all of the new articles are from Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley. Are photos required for placement on this page? What is the criteria? Can anybody from IndyMedia answer my question? Is Sacramento not considered in the Central Valley?

Right now, I am the only person on the IMC editorial board working on the Central Valley page. Doug from Modesto has expressed an interest in helping but we need to set up a date to train him on how to post blurbs on the front page and navigate through the system. It would be wonderful if someone from Sacramento had the time to volunteer to join Doug and I as editors on the IMC Central Valley page. The goal here is to have an editorial collective that is geographically representative of the valley. Until that happens, I will do my best to include information from all areas. When you have something that you believe should be on the front page of the Central Valley section, let me know. Yes, pictures do help.

In Solidarity,

Hi Dan;
It really helps to have a photo or some form of art (drawing, etc.) for a center page story. Look at any imc site almost all of the center page stories have photos. On todays indybay site there are 12 stories only 1 does not have a pic. or art.
Also of the 15 articles posted to the central valley local news section right now; 9 are from Fresno, 3 from Sacramento, 1 from Modesto, 1 from Sonoma and 1 is about world news.
Start posting stories. Go to the hearing about the sports arena take some photos write a story and it can go on the center page.

I hope this helps.

I would like to see Sacramento Indymedia supporters call a meeting to re-organize a core group of people to work on the Central Valley IMC project. Since Dan Bacher posted his comment (above) I have had two people contact me from Sacramento who say they want to work on the editorial board. Doug Gilbert in Modesto also wants to join the editorial board. I say, lets have a meeting in Sacramento and see if we can move the Central Valley IMC project forward. I will help with the agenda and would be happy to stay late to conduct a workshop on how to use Indymedia and explain what is involved with being on the editorial board. Someone in Sacramento needs to pick a day, a time, and a place to meet.

As with any anti-authoritarian project, what comes out of indymedia is going to be what we put into indymedia.

When we first met in Sacramento as a group of people all over the central valley, we talked basically about setting up a network of various town based collectives, that could have one person post up their stories to the main wire of the site. While alot of people showed up to the meeting, it turned out that few people seemed interested in really partaking in such a project.

So now we have Mike from Fresno, and myself from Modesto editing this page. We are looking for more people, and if you are interested in becoming and editor, simply join the list serve, see what is needed as far as going to a simple meeting and getting trained etc.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
