Indypendent June 15
The latest issue of NYC IMC's newspaper, the Indypendent.
While the mainstream media was busy eulogizing the Gipper, we were exposing his real legacy. Articles include: We Begin Bombing in Five Minutes || Born in the USSR || Reagan's America: Not Colorblind, Just Blind || Legacy Lunacy and When I Liked Ronnie. Other articles take a look at mob corruption in the Longshoreman's Union, the dismantling of a tent city in Jersey City, the aftermath of the court case against Long Island activist Conor Cash, pollution in Iraq and the Lynne Stewart trial. In the culture section, there is a review of Control Room and an interview with the director of The Corporation.

I'm visiting NYC right now. The indypendent is great because people can pick it up in some key places, even though they don't come across the web site on their own. I liked a recent article about organizing for the RNC where they said that it would probably make a lot of sense of have a mass yet decentralized plan for everyone to develop their own creative projects for intersections around the city just like San Francisco did with great success during the March 20, 2003 day of Iraq war escalation. There are lots and lots of police in New York, and not so much ground surface, even though Manhattan is still huge. But the police have demonstrated in the past that they are capable of keeping 200,000 people under control in fenced pens during ANSWER events, so decentralization and creativity is the key.
