Democrats Peskin & McGoldrick Attack Tenants

by San Francisco Voter
Democratic Supervisors Aaron Peskin and Jake McGoldrick refused to support putting on the ballot a Tenant Union proposal to reform the Rent Board appointments so that tenant representatives are 2/3 of the Board, as we are 2/3 of the City's population.
Democratic Supervisors Aaron Peskin and Jake McGoldrick refused to support putting on the ballot a Tenant Union proposal to reform the Rent Board appointments so that tenant representatives are 2/3 of the Board, as we are 2/3 of the City's population.

According to the San Francisco Tenants Union at http://www.sftu.org:
SUPS MCGOLDRICK & PESKIN SIDE WITH LANDLORDS TO SHOOT DOWN RENT BOARD REFORM MEASURE 3-0
Measure Falls 2 Votes Shy; McGoldrick & Peskin Had Promised To Support Appointment Reforms But In the End Voted To Keep Tenants A Minority On the Rent Board and To Let Newsom Keep The Appointments—Tenants To Collect Signatures For Measure To Elect The Rent Board, Probably For November 2005 Election

By a vote of 4-7 (Ammiano, Daly, Gonzalez, and Sandoval voting for tenants; McGoldrick, Peskin, Hall, Dufty, Ma, Maxwell and Alioto-Pier voting for landlords), a compromised version of Rent Board Reform was defeated by the Supervisors on Tuesday, July 13. Both Sups. McGoldrick and Peskin were elected by tenants but now seem to side with landlords. Both had promised to support a measure reforming how the Rent Board gets appointed. Both voted against a final compromise which would have made the Rent Board 2 tenants, 2 landlords and 3 undesignated seats and which would have given the Supervisors 4 of the appointments and the Mayor 3. Thanks to the betrayal of supposed pro-tenant Supervisors, our rent control is now at risk by a anti-rent control Mayor who gets to make all of the appointments to the Rent Board.

A further description of this outrage by these good Democrats may be found at
http://www.beyondchron.org/default.asp?sourceid=&smenu=110&twindow=&mad=&sdetail=584&wpage=1&skeyword=&sidate=&ccat=&ccatm=&restate=&restatus=&reoption=&retype=&repmin=&repmax=&rebed=&rebath=

This was not an endorsement; this was just to put this proposed charter amendment on the ballot.

Democrat Peskin has also voted against a resolution opposing the war in Iraq, as did his fellow Democrat and pro-landlord parasite, now mayor, Gavin Newsom, when he was on the Board.

So, we have Democrats who are anti-tenant, pro-war and by definition, pro-Israel, as all Democratic officials (including Supervisor Tom Ammiano) support the fascist US puppet government of Israel, all just like the Republicans, who also are all by definition pro-Israel.

That is why we need socialist candidates and good independent candidates like Ralph Nader and Pete Camejo on the ballot. This writer is voting for Leonard Peltier for President on the socialist Peace & Freedom Party ticket. See http://www.peaceandfreedom2004.org

The Democrats and the Republicans are the twin parties of capitalism. The only reason the Democrats exist is to keep the Reds and Greens out of office. It is insulting and outrageous that anyone complains about Ralph Nader and Pete Camejo or any socialist candidates being on the ballot. If we did not have these candidates, we could skip the entire candidate section as the Democrats and Republicans do not represent us, and we must always vote our conscience.

I will also be voting for Marsha Feinland for US Senate, running against that death penalty promoter and staunch Zionist, Senator Barbara Boxer, whose Republican opponent by definition is also pro-death penalty and pro-Israel.

The sooner people vote their conscience, the sooner both the Democrats and Republicans will be kicked out of the workingclass communities, as they do not, cannot and will not represent us. They demonstrate every chance they get their utter contempt for us. It is time we do the same to them by never voting for any Democrat or any Republican for any position whatsoever. Always vote your conscience.
