Indy "Posting Parties" Held in Sacramento

by ron cooper (rcooper444 [at] aol.com)
Access Sacramento supports the growth of Indy Media in the Capital City and hosts two upcoming posting parties to teach how easy it is to publish your thoughts.
Hello Friends of Indy Media!

Access Sacramento hosted a successful "Posting Party" here in our media lab last evening (7/14/04). Steve used the PC and projector to walk through the various levels of how a simple posting of an article or event can be handled. JoAnn Fuller of Common Cause commented how easy and helpful this posting process was and how important it would be to so many groups in the Sacramento area.

There is a wide frustration among worthwhile organizations interested in progressive politics, environmental issues, urban planning, security/defense, etc. and the struggle to get the word out through the local media including the Sacramento Bee.

The group decided we needed to "build" the indy media community from the ground up by hosting more "Posting Parties" here at Access Sacramento and other sites in the community. The goal would be to bring a message, press release, article or statement, sit at a computer with an experienced "indymedia type" looking over your shoulder, as needed ;>), and demonstrating just how easy and quick the process is. Within 15 minutes, you will see your message posted on the local site... "WOW, did I do that?"... a great beginning.

Soon postings from individual Indy media users will grow here in River City... the more postings, the more potential editors... the more interested editors who realize they won't have to "do all the work", the more the need for a distinct Indy Sac site and as Susan said, "Don't ya know there are plenty of "whistle blowers" in our Capital City interested in posting interesting stories from the seat of the 5th largest economy in the world?"

Take control of getting your "news" out to the world and get involved at one of these upcoming "Posting Parties". Here are the dates and times... but come prepared with "something to say" and it shall be done, by YOU "right before your eyes".

Ac/Sac has 15 working PC's and Mac's with high speed access to the internet, ready to go. Stop whining about "corporate control of media" and become the media, publishing your thoughts, pictures, videos and more at one of these sessions. Ron Cooper, Access E.D. (916) 456-8600 #112
