San Francisco day laborers and janitors will directly confront Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to demand that he approve drives licenses for immigrants.

On Thursday, August 26, 2004, at 10:30 am, at 455 Golden Gate Ave., in San Francisco, dozens of San Francisco's immigrant workers, namely members of the San Francisco Day Labor Program and of the Service Employees
International Union (SEIU)Local 1877, will hold a press conference in front of the State Building and will then enter Governor Schwarzenegger's office demanding that he sign SB 1160, the "Drivers License Bill," into law.

SB 1160 is currently making its way through the state legislature and will soon be given to the Governor for signature. Immigrant and workers' rights advocates have urged the Governor to sign the bill before this legislative
season ends. Governor Schwarzenegger assured Democrats in the state legislature that he would sign a drivers licences for immigrants bill this year.
