The SHORTWAVE REPORT 9/10/04 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.2MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Russia, Germany, and China.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (September 10) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, Radio Deutsche Welle, and China Radio International.
From Netherlands- The Dutch Parliament says the government should be less eager to send Dutch troops on foreign missions. A suspected Colombian rebel has been charged by the US with using a weapon of mass destruction- a hand grenade- the implications of this policy are analyzed. Then a press review concerning the hostage massacre that occured in Southern Russia. The Russian government has been trying to silence all criticism of their military action in the hostage crisis but many questions remain unanswered.
From Russia- Russian government officials and media are angry that the Western media is referring to the hostage takers and others as "rebels" and "insurgents" rather than as "terrorists." Iran continues to say that it will follow through with the demands made by the IAEA. Palestinians launched a general strike in response to the latest Israeli attacks following the bus bombings blamed on Hamas.
From Germany- Heavy fighting continues in the Northern Gaza region, while the Prime Minister of Palestine tried to resign again. Russia has warned that it would launch preemptive strikes against terrorists anywhere on this planet. Deaths from the war on Iraq continue to climb on both sides due to increased fighting.
From Germany- The number of Americans dead in Iraq reached 1000 this week, the large majority of them following Bush's speech last year that the war had been won. N Korea has protested at the UN that S Korea and the US have abducted N Korean citizens. Iran says it has held talks with the EU and agreed to freeze some of its nuclear development. S Korea has admitted it has completed some experiments in enriching uranium- how will this affect the 6 party talks aimed at making the Korean penisula a nuclear free zone?

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better-  http://www.freakradio.org  Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PDST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
