In the absence of a comprehensive policy regarding medical cannabis in the city and county of San Francisco, which has led to a great deal of confusion and resulted in over 100 arrests of patients and caregivers by the SFPD, we, at HempEvolution.org, are organizing a Medical Cannabis Legal Clinic on the steps of the Hall of Justice; 850 Bryant St; to be held from 11 AM to 4 PM on October 1, 2004.

Confirmed speakers include: J. Tony Serra [America's most repspected criminal defense attorney, Chris Conrad [internationally respected authority on cannabis, industrial hemp, medical marijuana, cultivation, yields and cannabis culture], Dennis Peron [author, Prop 215], Dale Gieringer [California NORML], William Panzer [co-author Prop 215], and many more of the finest attorneys in California.

Invited Speakers include: Kamala Harris [S.F. District Attorney], Jeff Adachi [S.F. Public Defender], , Mayor Gavin Newsom, Police Chief Heather Fong

Topics include: Obtaining a physician's recommendation, providing an affirmative defense, what to do in a police encounter, the nuts and bolts of SB 420, establishing local medical cannabis guidelines, patient-doctor confidentiality, organizing trial support for defendants, fighting asset forfeiture hearings.

The Medical Cannabis Legal Clinic is the inaugural project of the proposed Cannabis Defense Clinic, a project planned to provided legal advice and representation to marijuana defendants in the event that may seek a jury trial.

As the organizer of the Medical Cannabis Legal Clinic, I have put a lot of effort in assembling the keenest legal minds in California to inform you about the legal issues surrounding SB 420, the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, et al.

I have invited the following local public officials to speak and show their support for San Francisco's patients and caregivers, personally, by phone, and electronically, but would be suprised if any of them answer.

I realize that our public officials are not obligated to show up, but we urge local patients and caregivers to call and/or e-mail them with the message that you strongly support medical cannabis, and are against the continued arrests of patients and caregivers by the SFPD [which is unlawful according to SB 420] and that you would greatly appreciate their presence at the Medical Cannabis Legal Clinic on October 1st, 2004, at the Hall of Justice; as it would clear up the current confusion surrounding this issue.

Hopefully, your actions will help to change their minds about attending.
