A three part program delving into the inspiration,
implementation and higher thought of environmental art
and multimedia outreach. Join three artists through
three aspects of multimedia art and environmental
education.
======================================================
Part 1: Saving the Rainforest One Pixel at a Time
------------------------------------------------------
NATE PAGEL
designate [at] mindspring.com
Nate Pagel will discuss the use of media in awareness
of and fundraising for 'green' causes, through
education, outreach and creative work projects.
Pagel is a media artist who collaborates with
choreographers, composers, programmers and designers
to create theatrical performances, installation works
and works for DVD. An accomplished designer, writer,
teacher and entrepreneur, Nate has collaborated on a
number of commercial projects that have won him over
40 industry design awards. Last summer, he taught
at the Institute for Digital Performing arts in
Costa Rica, while shooting video of the rainforest
in many locations throughout the country.
Pagel has been showing his work in galleries, museums
and on stages internationally for over ten years and
in nine countries.
------------------------------------------------------
Part 2: From Idea to Inception
------------------------------------------------------
AMY SEIDMAN
http://www.Incredible-Places.com
Multimedia artist, photographer and musician Amy
Seidman will discuss the practical creation of
conscious multimedia, through exploring the root idea
and learning the value of translating one concept into
many medias and multiple audiences.
Amy has developed multimedia content (Internet, DVD
and broadband) since the inception of new media in
1995. Prior to new media, she spent 10 years as an
award-winning internationally published photographer,
writer, documentary film maker and environmental
educator. Amy¹s experience and archives of content
have played an integral part in providing the vision
and direction for her company Incredible Places,
a spin off of Creative Entity, whose focus is to
foster education, tolerance and global understanding
of different cultures and natural environments using
technology within Made for the Media experiences.
------------------------------------------------------
Part 3: Nature is Beautiful When It Imitates Art
------------------------------------------------------
BERNIE KRAUSE
http://www.wildsanctuary.com
As many artists active across the spectrum of media
within our culture have turned more and more to the
what we call “nature,” for inspiration, we are,
unintentionally, creating a large body of work that
demonstrates a fundamental and profound separation
from the very links we seek to the natural world.
Bernie will explores ways in which we can re-engage
with nature.
Since 1968, Dr. Bernie Krause has traveled the world
recording and archiving the sounds of creatures and
environments large and small. Working at the
research sites of Jane Goodall (Gombe, Tanzania),
Birute Galdikas (Camp Leakey, Borneo), and Dian
Fossey (Karisoke, Rwanda), he identified the concept
of biophony (a/k/a The Niche Hypothesis) based on the
relationships of individual creatures to the
total biological soundscape within a given habitat.
Through his company, Wild Sanctuary, he has recorded
over 50 natural soundscape CDs, and creates
interactive environmental sound sculptures for
museums, zoos and aquaria throughout the world.
