Shelley Corruption Scandal Impacts S.F. Voter Education Funds

Partisan drama unfolds: With Secretary of State Kevin Shelley the subject of state legislative and federal corruption investigations, the Schwarzenegger administration decided to freeze voter education funds that would have been disbursed by Shelley under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). In response, the ministers of a number of San Francisco African-American churches held an emergency press conference in front of the State Building, blasting Gov. Schwarzenegger as part of an "axis of evil" along with Bush and Cheney and demanding that the funds be released. The ministers will take their protest to Sacramento on Friday.
