Flying Pickets will continue to support hotel workers

by gifford (SFBay [at] IDPeditions.org)
Now that the SF hotel worker lockout is over, the boycott of the 14 hotels will continue during the 60-day "cooling off" period. Join us at 7:00 PM, Sunday November 28th at the corner of Powell & Geary as we go to the hotels to let anyone going into them know that the workers there don't have a contract.
It's important that everyone knows that after a limited, 2-week strike at 4 hotels workers at 10 other hotels were put out of their jobs in an "offensive" lockout. This happened at all 14 hotels at the end of the 2 weeks as management from these multinational hotel chains tried to starve out the workers for 7 weeks and force them to take a contract that would make them pay $273 for their health care at the end of the 5 year contract. Additionally, since the highly profitable multinational corporations have international leverage, the workers' union, HERE, is demanding a 2-year contract that would expire at the same time as New York, Boston, Toronto and LA. That way the union could coordinate negotiations nationally to bargain from a stonger, united position.

Grocery workers in Northern California are also having contract negotiations and after the decisive defeat in Southern California last winter; they would take inspiration from a victory of the hotel workers. We all need to show our working class solidarity and make all these attacks on working class people, regardless of sector or industry, a reason to come out and fight with unity. Only then would all our struggles be strengthened and the possibility of our fighting to win in offensive struggles be real.

This Sunday, people will turn out to show the scummy managers of these hotel chains that ending the lockout has NOT ended the struggle of our sisters and brothers working in the hotels. We'll be there to make sure the workers' demands stay HOT during the cooling off period.

THEIR FIGHT IS OUR FIGHT TOO! COME OUT AND SHOW YOUR WORKING CLASS SOLIDARITY!

SUNDAY, NOV. 28, 7:00 PM, UNION SQUARE (corner of POWELL & GEARY)
