CWA Wins $113,000 Federal Grant for Conference to Fight Sex Trafficking 11/30/2004

Washington, D.C. –– Concerned Women for America (CWA) received notification today that it is receiving a $113,000 grant from the U.S. State Department to host a conference to fight sex trafficking for Mexican leaders. The conference will increase awareness of the problem of modern-day sex slavery and train the Mexican leaders to combat the problem in their nation.

Dr. Janice Crouse, project director and senior fellow of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, said, “This grant will link CWA, America’s largest public policy women’s organization, with an equally strong grassroots organization, Red Familia –– a coalition of 150 pro-family organizations in Mexico –– to work together as abolitionists in the effort to end modern-day slavery, sex trafficking.”

Crouse has been involved in abolitionist efforts at the national level for over a decade. She said, “This grant is CWA’s first federal grant; we are pleased that the State Department is underwriting the opportunity for CWA to work with Mexican leaders in this effort to build an international partnership for such an important endeavor.”

Concerned Women for America will bring up to 15 Mexican Red Familia representatives to Washington, D.C., for a week of training and networking with anti-trafficking experts. Red Familia representatives will include government officials, community advocacy leaders and service providers. Dr. Crouse will then travel to Mexico to meet with participants to refine a program plan for future collaboration.
