WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- American Life League issued the following statement regarding the appointment of Nancy Keenan to serve as president of NARAL:
"It is a sad day in America when someone who claims to have been raised in the Catholic Church takes the helm of an organization solely dedicated to advocating the mass slaughter of innocent preborn children in the womb.
"For a woman who was taught to respect all innocent human beings, it is a scandal that Ms. Keenan has agreed to lead such an anti-life, anti-Catholic organization. The Catholic Church does not waver in its teaching that the act of abortion is gravely evil in every circumstance, and Ms. Keenan has made it perfectly clear that she believes the Church is wrong.
"In NARAL's news release announcing Keenan's appointment, the organization praised her unwavering pro-abortion position in response to a public effort to excommunicate her from the Catholic Church some years ago. Ms. Keenan has spit in the face of the Catholic Church with her consistent support and promotion of abortion.
"American Life League will ask Bishop Paul S. Loverde of Arlington, Va. (Ms. Keenan's current home) to clarify her current status with the Catholic Church. We want to be assured that Ms. Keenan is not using her 'Catholic identity' to further denigrate Christ and His Church.
"Catholic teaching sends a clear message: you cannot be both Catholic and pro-abortion."
