Premier Free Screening Of "Almost Broken" On Feb 4, 2005 1:00 PM in San Francisco

Almost Broken, A Documentary by Injured Workers, For Injured Workers. Almost Broken is a documentary about a man, his family, the search for truth and justice, and how they stumbled onto more truth than they ever imagined. This is a true story that started in 1989 with an injured worker and a corrupt Worker's Compensation insurance company. Larry Nign was exposed to harmful toxic fumes from hot and burning plastic that nearly fried his lungs and left him with serious damage to his heart and lungs.

On Friday February 4, 2005, Writer/Producer Christine Pietz (an injured worker) will debut her 60 minute documentary “Almost Broken” which will seen at a special showing for injured workers and the Radio, Television & Print media from 1:00 to 3:00PM in the Koret Auditorium of the San Francisco Public Library located at 100 Larkin Street in San Francisco, located on the lower level.

This is a MUST SEE movie for every injured worker and for that matter, any person interested in the rights of California's workers. After the movie, there with be a Question & Answer period with the producers and injured workers advocates, as well as an update as to what is going on with Workers’ Compensation in California.

The library is less than a half block from the CivicCenter Metro & BART stations.

This documentary is the story about the ongoing fight of Southern California injured worker Larry Nign in his 14 year battle with the quasi-state owned State Compensation Insurance Fund and their attempts to financially crush him and break his spirit. This documentary will show you how California’s Workers Compensation insurance carriers commit fraud and corruption against the occupationally injured on a daily basis and asks the question why the state does not take legal or criminal action to protect it's own citizens from the predatory business practices of these corporations.

We wish to invite you and your family and friends to see this unbelievable documentary. The auditorium only has 237 seats and seating reservations are recommended to make sure that you get a seat. There will be no standing in the aisles at the request of the library and the Fire Department.

After the movie, we will be marching a block or two away to 1275 Market Street which is the headquarters of State Compensation Insurance Fund for a rally in support of Mr. Nign. This will be a peaceful rally and injured workers are expected to obey the law and the rights of the State Fund.

Labor advocate Steve Zeltzer and SEIU Local 1000 organizers who represent State Fund employees, will be on hand to tell you about how State Fund employees are having problems as well. The library asks that we use the entrance at 30 Grove Street to enter the building. There will be a sign directing you to the Koret Auditorium. Please do not bother library personnel. This is a handicapped accessible building with wheelchair elevator available. For further information and to reserve your seat, please call 415 298-93434 or 415 738-2184, not the library, or email us at this special email address:
almostbrokenmovie [at] yahoo.com with the number of seats that you will require and a name and phone number where you may be reached.

What do you do when you have been beaten down for 13 years? You stand...

Almost Broken, but not just yet.......

If you are an injured worker, you MUST see this documentary. http://www.almostbroken.com

Defend Injured and Disabled Workers On April 28, 2005
Rally In Sacramento On Workers' Memorial Day To

Stop Attacking Workers' Comp &
For Single Payer Healthcare For All

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Injured and disabled workers are under direct attack. As a result of the deregulation of the California Workers’ Comp System, insurance companies can refuse to care for injured and disabled workers and are not penalized.
Already injured workers who have been unable to get proper medical care, pain medication or payments for their housing and their families. Some workers have already committed suicide as a result of these attacks.
We cannot afford to let this continue. While profits are going up for the insurance billionaires like Buffet, retraining benefits have been permanently cut and now temporary workers’ comp is limited to two years. The media has ignored and censored the plight of the injured workers. Instead of exposing the daily nightmares we face they only concerned about the insurance companies and the employers. Workers’ Comp was established to protect our rights and not the profit interests of the insurance companies.
Health and safety is also being threatened. When workers realize that they will not get medical coverage when they are injured on the job, this will create an even more stressful and dangerous workplace. Every day in California two workers die on the job and this is bound to grow unless injured and disable workers along with their families and the entire labor movement stand together to defend our basic rights.
We also believe that all workers should be entitled to healthcare. We need to push now for single payer in California and get the insurance companies out of the healthcare industry. This rally is also endorsed by:
