2/22, Former SF Street Cleaners Hold Press Conference/Protest

by La Raza Centro Legal
WHAT: Support DPW workers who were fired due to corruption and nepotism in
the Department!
WHEN: Tuesday, February 22, 11 am.
WHERE: 2323 Cesar Chavez St., San Francisco
Dear friends and allies,

La Raza Centro Legal is currently assisting about 40 general laborers who
previously worked for the SF Department of Public Works (DPW) and who
unfairly, and illegally, lost their jobs due to corruption and nepotism in
the Department.

These workers, predominantly African-American, Latino and Asian, and who
worked as street cleaners, are holding a press conference and protest on
Tuesday, February 22, 2005, 11 am to 12 noon, at 2323 Cesar Chavez St., San
Francisco. Please join them!!

Among other things, the workers are demanding that they be reinstated to
their jobs with full seniority, that the City conduct an investigation of
the 7514 General Laborers Civil Service Exam, and that the City investigate
Deputy Director Mohammad Nuru's involvement with the firings. Mayor Gavin
Newsom has so far refused to meet with the workers.

La Raza is working with the Laborers' Union on this case.
