Protest foie gras "special dinner" in San Mateo, Sat. 4/16
Two chefs in California are on a "personal crusade" to defend the "right" of restaurateurs to sell the diseased livers of force-fed ducks as an expensive gourmet delicacy. They have scheduled a "special" twelve-course dinner with each course featuring either foie gras or duck, including a "ducksicle" desert. The dinner is intended to support California's foie gras and duck meat producers, who have recently come under scrutiny for torturing ducks for profit, and in reaction to the recent passage of California's law banning the force-feeding of ducks for foie gras.
Please join Viva!USA, Animal Place, Farm Sanctuary and In Defense of Animals for an educational outreach event outside this "special dinner" to remind diners and the public that these chefs are attempting to justify and promote egregious cruelty to animals for the sake of a gourmet meal.
