Vertict in Riders' Case Still Out, Despite What You've Heard on TV

by Jen de PUEBLO (peopleunited [at] earthlink.net)

Vertict in Riders' Case Still Out, Despite What You've Heard on TV

Hung Jury at Alameda County Court House But the People of Oakland Remain Hipper than Hip

Oakland's celebrating Malcolm X's birthday in style as the clerk of the court announced the juror's final verdict in the final round of criminal cases against the corrupt, brutal and murderous vigilante gang of Oakland Police Department Officers known as the Riders.

I hope that the whistleblower who instigated the investigation, Officer Batt, is getting cats out of trees in Pleastonton today. I hope that today, wherever the Riders may be, that they are thoroughly ashamed of themselves for what they have done.

From where I sit it looks like there's no need for City Hall to call up James Brown to play a free show in our town. If the folks down here want to turn the funk up, they will turn on their own stereos.

On April 3rd, 1964 Malcolm X told the people of the world that it was either going to be the ballot or the bullet, and he was patient enough to make himself very clear, "by the ballot I only mean freedom."

Even if it's not your birthday, I hope all y'all will party like it's your birthday.

Peace out,
In solidarity and struggle,
Besos y abrazos,
From the heart of West Oakland,

Jen Neuber

Another aquittal? The people of Oakland are tired of the waste of money on this crap.

All of these acquittals of vicious police are clearly being done by juries that are not workingclass. As we all know, the workingclass cannot possibly serve on juries as we all have to work for a living and do not have time or money to sit in the bowels of the Gestapo, commonly known as the courthouse, listening to the pretense of justice being perpetrated.

The reason for all the police brutality is that there is no labor movement. When people finally realize that there is no freedom, democracy or opportunity here, perhaps they will finally go on strike and demand decent wages, hours and working conditions.

We are not tired of trials of police; we are tired of police brutality. I can only wonder when the workingclass of this country will be sufficiently tired of the police brutality to go on strike.
