EYE-WITNESS ARRESTED BY ARCATA COPS
An eye-witness to the tasering incident was arrested yesterday (Tuesday MAy 24, 2005) when he went to file a complaint at the police office.
The man asserted that he was assaulted on the night of the taser incident.
Upon going to the Arcata Police Department office, was told that he could file a complaint if he waited in the office. Two cops came into the office to talk to him, but refused to fill out a complaint form. They then asked him to go into a backroom for further questioning, which the man refused to do. The man was then told that he was under arrest by Officer Sligh, and several more cops suddenly burst into the room from where they had been waiting in ambush. The man was not allowed to pass on his possessions to witnesses who were accompanying him.

§arrested for a warrant
by justice due
oops! sorry that I forgot this part: the eye-witness was told that he was being arrested for a warrant from out of town. The police were asked to produce a copy of the warrant, or some evidence that there actually was an uncleared warrant, and they refused.
If anyone has any helpful input, please comment. I would especially like to know if the cops have to produce a warrant upon request.

No, they don't have to produce a copy of the warrant. Little hint, if you are a wanted fugitive, stay away from police stations.............

If the cops lied about the warrant, they are in serious trouble, one would think. My understanding is when they ask you to do something you can ask "am I under arrest?", if they say no you can say no. just a layman

take your idle threats and your bucko-crap to some right-wing, jingoistic site where everyone is scared. You really aren't intimidating anyone here, keyboard warrior.

How dumb. How often have you ever seen anyone do it- yet the amendment would make it illegal to have design paper plates and napkins or to destroy shirts after they get worn out.

I agree with you TW, that Burden of Proof guy should take his crap somewhere elses.........

The subject is, in short, an effort to refashion law so that they emulate the systems found in the world.

The wtiness was out of jail that night. Seems that the warrant was for an 8 year-old misdemeanor.
