The SHORTWAVE REPORT 5/27/05 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. Spain, Netherlands, China, Russia, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (May 27) is up at the website
< http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml >in both broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:50)

This week's show features stories from Spanish National Radio, Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From SPAIN-A preannounced car bomb was set off in Madrid by the Basque separatist group ETA, 2 days after some members were arrested in France. An editorial from El Pais rejects the US plan for putting weapons in space. Bolivia's military denies it is preparing for a coup, while peasant groups want a new constitution and nationalization of oil resources. FARC rebels stepped up attacks in Colombia, while right-wing paramilitaries failed to reach a compromise with government forces.
From NETHERLANDS- Venezuelan President Chavez threatened to cut off ties to the US if terrorist Luis Posada Carriles is not extradited to face trial. The Dutch government wants Doctors Without Borders to repay 1 million Euros paid in ransom to free a hostage in a Russian province.
From CHINA- Tension between China and Japan over historical war crimes continued to escalate. Iran made more pledges to not develop nuclear weapons, which satisfied everyone but the US.
From RUSSIA- An oil pipeline from the Baltic region was opened this week, a US/European venture- Russia questions the purpose of the delivery route which may have more to do with the US military than with oil. The torturing of prisoners in Afghanistan by US military forces has led to calls for independent international investigations.
From CUBA- A Viewpoint attributing the roots of today's terrorism to US actions against the Cuban revolution, then Chile and Nicaragua.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via <http://www.kzyx.org >
There are several other streams that work better- < http://www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- <http://www.radiolavalamp.org>
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- <http://www.partytown.com/radi0
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
