for the following letter to be sent in your name:
Sample Text (you will be able to edit it on the website):
........................................................
Governor Perry, Attorney General Abbott, President Bush, Senators and
Representatives, Houston Mayor White, Houston City Councilors, and
Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles:
On September 14, 2005, Frances Newton, AN INNOCENT WOMAN, is scheduled
to be executed by the state of Texas. If the jury had known the facts
that are presently known, they would not have found Frances guilty nor
given her the death sentence. The dubious motive, unrealistic timeline,
the police's refusal to follow important leads, and most of all, her
incompetent counsel, all point to the compelling evidence that proves
Frances Newton is innocent. She has been on death row for 18 years, and
you have already granted her a 120- day stay. But on the basis of new
evidence, Frances needs to finally have her day in court. We plead to
you in good conscience to STOP THE EXECUTION OF FRANCES NEWTON.
Sincerely,
-------

Something politicians need to understand before taking the life of a potentially innocent person. Wasted time spent in prison can be recovered upon release, yet death is permanent and cannot be revoked. Even the slightest question of innocence needs to be taken seriously, WAIT!!
DO NOT execute anyone today, wait and review any new evidence. If a guilty verdict is not 100 percent certain, then WAIT another week or month until there is 100 percent certainty of guilt. If not 100% certainty of guilt, then execution is NOT an option!!
Time in prison can be recovered upon proof of not guilty, death is irreversible..
Politicians will do well to remember this simple request if the shoe is ever on the other foot..
"Perhaps the bleakest fact of all is that the death penalty is imposed not only in a freakish and discriminatory manner, but also in some cases upon defendants who are actually innocent.
-Justice William J. Brennan, Jr., 1994"
"The danger that innocent people will be executed because of errors in the criminal justice system is getting worse. A total of 69 people have been released from death row since 1973 after evidence of their innocence emerged. Twenty-one condemned inmates have been released since 1993, including seven from the state of Illinois alone. Many of these cases were discovered not because of the normal appeals process, but rather as a result of new scientific techniques, investigations by journalists, and the dedicated work of expert attorneys, not available to the typical death row inmate.
This report tells the stories of people like Rolando Cruz, released after 10 years on Illinois's death row, despite the fact that another man had confessed to the crime shortly after his conviction; and Ricardo Aldape Guerra, who returned to Mexico after 15 years on Texas's death row because of a prosecution that a federal judge called outrageous and designed to simply achieve another notch on the prosecutor's guns."
