Campout to fight Calpine and Bush's energy policy

by Save Medicine Lake
Come campout and hike in the majestic Medicine Lake caldera.

..and find out how you can fight Calpine and Bush's Energy Policies

Sept. 10th and 11th
at 3pm at the Bullseye Lake campground

Come hike and swim with us in the threatened Medicine Lake volcanic
caldera in the Southern Cascades. Two power plants and over 24 miles of transmission lines through a popular forested recreation area threaten Medicine Lake.

The Medicine Lake caldera is a wild area that is sacred to several tribes
in Northern California and is located on National Forest Land in the
Klamath, Modoc and Shasta-Trinity National Forests. However energy
mega-corporate Calpine owns 66 square miles of leases on this sacred
public land and thanks their part in the California "Energy Crisis" and to
the Bush administration, a decision to preserve some of this area have
been overturned.

Come find out about Bush's new energy bill and how it threatens public
lands and Native peoples, and enjoy a day of swimming and hiking in a
landscape of lava caves, obsidian flows, old-growth forests and high
mountain lakes.

Carpools will be leaving from Ashland and Arcata and are possible from
Cave Junction or Happy Camp.

Please bring warm sleeping gear (the campground is at 7000 ft), food for
two lunches and a dinner, good hiking shoes, and a bathing suit.

This hike is sponsored by the Klamath Forest Alliance, the
Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center, the Environmental Protection
Information Center (EPIC), and local citizens.
